It is normal for a woman's belly button to pop out as her pregnancy progresses. Don't worry! It'll return to it's natural "in" state after birth

I am now 20 weeks pregnant.

First ultrasound

I went to the doctor's office on Friday afternoon to have some routine bloodwork done, and have my first ultrasound.  I was so excited for the ultrasound.. I could barely wait to see our precious little blob on the screen.  I learned that everything is progressing smoothly, which was wonderful and relieving news for me to hear.  Up until this point, my pregnancy had not yet been confirmed by a medical professional, and there were times when I wondered, "What if its all in my head?!"  I know that's silly to think, but I didn't have a lot of the traditional physical symptoms.  I don't think my pregnancy really hit home until the ultrasound.  Our little bean was right there in front of me, measuring 5mm... and had a strong heartbeat of 103 BPM!!  I could watch that beautiful little flicker all day, it was so amazing.

All in all, it was quite a day.  We were sent home with big cheesy smiles on our faces... and our very first baby picture to proudly hang on the fridge :)

Six weeks

Six week and still feeling great! ... Although, I hope I'm not jinxing myself by saying that.  In addition to my usual tender breasts and sleepless nights - filled with lots of peeing, I now have a super-sonic sense of smell.  Not always a good thing!  I've started compulsively reading any and all things pregnancy and baby related, which I'm assuming is normal for first time mamas-to-be.  I have this feeling that I should learn as much as possible now.  The more I know, the more comfortable with this major life transition I feel.  For me, learning is therapeutic!  I guess that makes me a big dork, but hey, there are worse things to be called in life :)

I love this journey, and I love knowing a little miracle is growing inside me.  I have a feeling that time is going to fly by before we know it, so we're trying to enjoy every single minute.  This week, Baby Bean Frobuccino is 6 weeks old:

How your baby's growing: This week's major developments: The nose, mouth, and ears that you'll spend so much time kissing in eight months are beginning to take shape. If you could see inside your uterus, you'd find an oversize head and dark spots where your baby's eyes and nostrils are starting to form. His emerging ears are marked by small depressions on the sides of the head, and his arms and legs by protruding buds. His heart is beating about 100 to 160 times a minute — almost twice as fast as yours — and blood is beginning to course through his body. His intestines are developing, and the bud of tissue that will give rise to his lungs has appeared. His pituitary gland is forming, as are the rest of his brain, muscles, and bones. Right now, your baby is a quarter of an inch long, about the size of a lentil bean.

Five weeks

So far, so good!  I know its very early in the game, but I feel fantastic and energetic most of the time.  However, I definitely do need more sleep these days, and I have been sneaking in afternoon naps each day :)  I have been feeling little "tugs" in my belly all week, which I'm told is the increased blood volume combined with my expanding uterus, making room for its new little tenant.

I'm still a little overwhelmed with all of our new excitement.  Chris is ecstatic, telling anyone who will listen that he's "going to be a daddy!"  I love seeing him this way, he's so darn cute :)  We considered keeping this pregnancy a secret for a few weeks, but we're not the kind of people who are cut out for secrets... we wanted to share our joy with the whole world!!

As for our little miracle bean, week 5 bring lots of new developments:

You won't believe the changes that your baby has already gone through in such a short time. Your baby's heart is 3/4 of the way formed and will begin beating this week! Also developing are the brain, cardiovascular and nervous systems and the reproductive and other major systems. Early this week your baby becomes pear-shaped. The rounded end will become the head while the pointed end will become your baby's spine. Your baby is now known as an embryo and is about 1.5 - 2.5 mm or 0.05 - 0.09 inches in length.

we're pregnant!!

I can't believe this time in our lives has finally arrived.  I feel as though I've been waiting forever to say those words, "we're pregnant!"  And after taking 4 home pregnancy tests, I finally believed it was true... we're going to have our own little miracle in January 2009!  I have been a basketcase all day, I'm just so excited!  Chris says he started guessing I was pregnant last week because I was acting weird/moody, but I haven't had any physical symptoms at all so I wasn't really expecting it to be our lucky month.  Guess I was wrong!  Our first doctor appt is tomorrow, so hopefully we'll know a more then.  We're so excited for the journey that lies ahead of us!  Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. xx
