Birth Story It all started on Sunday Sept 23rd . . . . .
I woke up having pains every 5 minutes lasting 1-2 minutes long. Silly me didn't think anything of it until I started to lose my mucus plus later that day. The next day, Monday the 24th, I realized that I hadn't felt Nathan move for several hours, so my mom took me down to the L & D to be checked. They confirmed that it was early labor, but because I was only 2 cm's sent me home and told me what to look for.
By Wednesday the 26th, I was miserable, the contraction stopped coming regular, although when they did, the intensity was the same as before, and my whole body hurt. My Dr Sanchez checked me and said I was dilated to a 3 and that Nathan's head was very low. He told me to show up at the hospital the next day for an induction. Thurdsday morning around 4.30 I got up to pee and noticed a little bit of green on the pad I was wearing and briefly wondered if my water had broken. But since I was going to the hospital in a few hours I just went back to bed.
We went to the hospital at 8.15 Thursday the 27th, was admitted and Dr Sanchez came by around 9.30 to administer the cervix ripening gel, also confirmed that my water had broken. He came again at 1.30 or so with another dose, saying I was too happy. That's when the contractions picked up.
They started coming every 1-2 minutes apart each lasting 1-2 minutes each. I barely had a chance to recover from one when the next one started. It was so painful and I ended up crying non-stop through several of them. Dr Sanchez came and checked on me around 5 pm (I think) I was 5-6 cm's and asked if I was ready for an epidural (he already knew I wanted one), I said yes. 1 hour later I had the epidural and was a happy camper.
But . . . .
The contractions almost completely stopped for a long time. I was able to nap through the night, and I say nap because I woke up alot. The nurses were in and out checking my temp and blood sugar levels and such.
At 8.30am Fridaythe 28th Dr Sanchez came and checked me again, said I was 8 cm's, told me they were going to give me some pitocin to try to speed up the contractions because they weren't coming often enough or lasting long enough. Well, that didn't work, so at 11.30 am I was rolled into the OR for a C-Section. Nathan was born at 11.54 am on the 28th of Sept.
Nathan & I spent 3 days in the hospital, the stay was actually quite pleasant. All the nurses and the rest of the hospital staff was great! They took awesome care of me and Nathan.
My family was awesome too! My mom stayed with me until after I was taken to the room I would stay in for the next few days. I don't think I could have handled labor and the surgery as well as I did if it weren't for her. She was my biggest comfort and help. I'll never be able to thank her enough for being there for me. Darren (my hunny) was there of course and kept me laughing which I knew he would. It kept my spirits up and things light-hearted. Even though he had to go back to work on Friday night, he was there with Nathan & I every chance he could. My dad and sister also came and kept my mind occupied with there hilerity and joke cracking. My sister in law came and visited while I was in labor and also when I was in recovery. My best friend Debbie was ready and willing to come on a moments notice should I have needed her or if my family, who was my support needed anything. Her and mom Cindy came to visit Nathan and I as well and it was nnice to have them there sharing my special little man with them. they've been my second family for years and I love them very much. My Grandma G brought flowers to the hospital, which was nice. And my Grandpa and Grandma W sent us some lovely flowers when we got home. I put them in the bedroom where I spend most of my time right now so I can see them.
All in all, it wasn't a bad experience and would gladly do again to have my little man with me. Even though it's a bit tough to adjust to having a baby, my heart fills with so much love for him that already I cannot imagine life without him. And Darren also had been great with him. Nathan adores Darren. The minute Darren comes home from work he goes to get Nathan and hold him and takes care of him while I rest.
I have had a smal complication with the C-Section incision. A small part of it is infected and opened up, bleeding. I went to the ER and was told it is actually quite common and told me to keep it clean and dry and put fresh dressing on it everyday and to expose it ot the air for 30 minutes 2 times a day, and they gave me some antibiotics to take for 10 days. It's already looking better and hasn't opened up more (which the ER Doc said also happens alot), so thats good.
Well, that's everything for now. I'll update with pictures and stuff later.
