Right at around 34 weeks, we also had another ultrasound. This one was just for fun - a coworker of mine referred me to a local community college which was looking for pregnant "models" for their medical ultrasound program. Apparently practicing on fake babymamas isn't all it's cracked up to be. Dave came with, and we were actually a little nervous to see baby again, especially that Baby Horne would suddenly do a split or something and we would find out the gender.
Well. We really needn't have worried. It turned out that #1, the student who was practicing on me really needs a lot more practice; he had a hard time even running the machine, let alone expertly finding his way around a pregnant belly. #2, Baby Horne was playing a fun game of hide and seek, which didn't help things along. We did find out, happily, that Baby is head down already - no breech here! But, Baby was turned away, facing my spine, so we didn't get any pictures of his/her face at all. We did get some nice pictures of the heart, brain, and spine, though in the end the student couldn't figure out how to eject the CD, and we left empty-handed. So, our exciting ultrasound turned out to be pretty much a non-event, but it was a good effort at least. I guess we'll just have to wait a little longer to meet Baby!

Playing Catchup
I guess it's been awhile since I last wrote in here, huh? It doesn't seem like that long, but I suppose with the busy busy days as of late, time really is flying by. There's lots to update, but for now I will just share the results of my last doctor's appointment, at 34 weeks.
All went well again, same old same old with Dr. James. I measured at exactly 34 weeks (34 cm), and the baby's heartrate was good, 142-143. All is well with mama too - I was a little concerned about my higher than normal pulse, 89, but the nurse assured me that I was still well within the normal range. I guess practically running to get to my appointment on time didn't really help things along! Blood pressure is good too, within normal limits, even for non-preggos. My next appointment is on Monday, and it marks the last of my two-week visits. After this next one I have to go weekly to get checked- the due date is closing in!
And at 34 weeks, Baby Horne was the weight of a honeydew melon. Better than a watermelon, in any case.

The Name Game
As the days are drawing closer, more and more people have been asking about names. I think I wrote this before, but Dave and I have indeed picked out names - two of each for boy and girl, with requisite middle names to complete the combo- and now we're not telling. We're hoping that when Baby Horne comes he or she will fit one of the names...otherwise we'll be up a creek because goodness knows we don't pick out names in a very timely manner.
But, I thought I'd share the names some very important family members have come up with for Baby Horne. I'm not saying these names are out of the running...but you decide. I may have mentioned these all before, but seeing how the pregnancy fog has really hit full force, I now feel the need to mention them all again.
Cousin Hannah first chimed in back at Christmas, and thought if Baby H. is a girl, we should name her Victoria. If it's a boy, we should name him Mumble. Thanks to Netflix, I now know these are vey cute names...for penguins.
Cousin Timothy, probably also around Christmastime, decided that we are definitely having a boy, and his name should definitely be Comet. Of course, he at one point also thought his new little sister's name should be Jesus.
And Cousin Landon, apparently thinking about the thing he likes best in his life right now, decided Baby's name should be Night Light Friend. And as mentioned before, Night Light Friend will be coming out of my belly button.
Any other name guesses?

Bad Mommy
Well, it's happened. I had my first "Bad Mommy" dream. I suppose it was inevitable, especially as the stress has piled on as of late, but it's really no fun to dream about what an awful parent you are (or will be)!
We were somehow living back in Rochester, at good ole' 98 Stone Fence Rd, and we had just brought the baby home from the hospital - I had a boy, by the way. (Remember, this is a dream - we still don't know, don't get all excited) Well apparently I hadn't been paying much attention in breastfeeding class, because I had no idea how to tell when the baby was hungry. Of course, it would've been hard to tell that anyway, seeing as how I kept the baby sleeping in the basement...right next to wear the litter box used to be...hmm, another bad Mommy choice. Hey, at least the kid was in a bassinet. One point for me. In any case, I somehow had the impression that when the baby was sleeping it was happy, and would just magically wake up and let me know it was hungry. Sounds good, except the baby didn't wake up for a few days, and when it finally did, I wasn't able to breastfeed because I had inverted nipples (an interesting scenario I've recently read about) and I was too embarrassed to ask my Mom for help. Luckily I woke up before I had a failure-to-thrive child on my hands!
So let's just all keep our fingers crossed that I have slightly better maternal instincts than that when Baby Horne comes along! Only about 6 more weeks now...my, how time has flown.
