NT Scan/Bloodwork Results

I received a phone call from the High-Risk Doc's office yesterday with my results from the NT Scan combined with the blood work I had taken a couple of weeks back.  The nurse told me that the probability of the baby having Down's Syndrome or other chromosomal abnormalties (such as Trisomy 18) is 1 out of 10,000.  And the probability of the baby having Open Neural Tube Defects is 1 out of 7,000.  The nurse told me that those are great numbers, since you want them as high as possible.  I was very excited to hear that! Next Friday is my final ultrasound with these docs and will find out the definite sex, if the baby cooperates!

On another note, I am now looking very pregnant.  I can only imagine how big I will be come November.  I will post some pics of how much I have gained soon....... I am sure you people will all be happy about that, right????

OB Visit May 26th

On May 26th, I had my 4 week check up with my OB.  I didn't realize that the appointment would be so quick.  All I did was a urine sample, get weighed, have my cervix checked and listen to the baby's heartbeat. I was in and out in 5 minutes.  Good news however, I have only gained 4 pounds since becoming pregnant. Bobby thinks the doc needs a new scale.....

I asked the doc when our next ultrasound would be and he said I am done after my next at the high risk doc June 23rd. To me that didn't seem right. He said that is a good thing though because you only have them done if something is wrong or if the baby is in a wierd position. The high risk doc will decide if I need more. What I don't understand is how do you know if he is in a wierd postion by just listening to the heartbeat? Doesn't make sense. But this wasn't my regular doc, just another in the practice, so maybe my actual doc will do another later on.

On another note, I seem to have grown a stomach overnight so those 4 pounds are multiplying. I threw another pair of work pants in the "pre-pregnancy" closet this morning. I am now in a maternity shirt and pants here at work..... But they are so cute so I don't mind.....

High Risk Doc Appointment

Today we had an appointment with the high risk doc.  My OBGYN wanted me to see him because of my thyroid issues, to make sure the baby is OK.  This doc performs a Nuchal translucency (NT) scan which is a method of assessing whether your baby is likely to have Down's syndrome or other chromosomal disorders.  The NT is a collection of fluid under the skin at the back of a baby's neck at 10-14 weeks that can be measured using an ultrasound. All babies have some fluid, but in many babies with Down's syndrome, the NT is increased. The ultrasound is combined with a blood test at this first visit and a second blood test and ultrasound at about 18 weeks.

The doctor said that to be considered high risk for such disorders, you would measure at a 1 in 300 chance or less.  We measured at 1 in 3400 by the ultrasound alone. When the blood is measured, that could change but he expects everything to be fine.  He also asked us if we wanted to know his early guess on the baby's sex and of course we said yes.  He said not to take it to the bank just yet, but early indication is that it is a.......... BOY!!!!!  Bobby says he already knew that because he can't have girls. I secretly thought that but hadn't said anything. He said we will know for sure at our next visit. So all in all, a very GOOD appointment. The next ultrasound with this doc is June 23......

Prenatal Visit - April 21, 2006
Today's appointment was with Dr. Repole and we did the whole internal exam (tons of fun)!  He did an internal ultrasound, which I am hoping we will be using the external ultrasounds at the next appointments. Everything looks great, I couldn't believe how fast the baby is growing. Take a look at the photo album and you can see how it has quadrupled in size in only 4 weeks, it is actually starting to look like a baby!  At this point in pregnancy, the baby should be 1 1/2 inches long and it is 1.6029 inches.... The next appointment is scheduled for May 26 with Dr. Lanus. We also have the high risk doc on May 5 so probably another ultrasound.....
