Next Ultrasound date confirmed

I spoke with the High Risk Doc's office this morning and have scheduled the next ultrasound for August 4th, so only another month or so.  I am really hoping the baby will cooperate this time and let us know the sex. Otherwise I will have to beg the doc to keep trying..... I haven't heard anything yet on my blood results from the TSI test, should hear by next week. Labcorp is usually pretty fast with the results.

On another note, Aunt Kristee had her Level 2 ultrasound the other day and her baby cooperated so she found out she is having.......... A GIRL!!!!  Very excited for her since she wanted a girl to dress up and buy coach oufits for.

20 Week High Risk Doc Appointment

I had my 20 week High Risk Doc appointment last Friday (June 23rd).  This was the Level 2 ultrasound, which looks more in depth into the baby and its development to determine abnormalities.  The ultrasound was really weird because you could only see a skeleton on the screen.  I saw the whole spinal cord, the arm and leg bones, kidneys, stomach, liver, brain and heart. Bobby couldn't leave work that early so my mom came with me and we watched the baby open and close its hands and yawn a few times.  It looked like the baby was bored and blowing bubbles!

The doctor seems concerned with my Graves Disease.  He asked if I ever had a blood test done called "Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin".  This test  measures the amount of an antibody which is directed against a receptor for TSH on the thyroid gland, which is a cause of Graves.  He said if I have this present, it could be given to the baby and it could develop Graves in the womb, which could lead to complications.  If the baby developed Graves and the goiter that I had at one time, it could cause breathing problems and birthing problems.  I called my thyroid doc yesterday and they said I had the test done in 2003 and it was normal.  So I am going today after work to have it done again to make sure it is still fine (it is just a simple blood test).

The doctor also pointed out a calcium deposit that was found in one of the baby's heart valves.  I had a feeling they had found something there because they took like a million pictures of the heart.  He scared me at first when he was talking about it, but then I asked what he meant exactly and if I should be worried about it and he said no.  Sometimes a deposit like that can be a marker for Down's Syndrome, but since my blood tests came back 1 in 10,000 for Down's, he is not concerned.  He said in most babies, the deposit goes away within the first 2 years of life. So again, nothing to be concerned about but he wanted to let me know in case it was brought up in future ultrasounds.  To which I said that my OB said I wouldn't be having any more done.  He said absolutely I would be because my Graves has to be monitored.  I will go back to him I think August 4th (the schedule isn't out yet for Aug) and he is going to stress to my OB that he should do more also. So that is good news!!

On to the gender, this doc said he would pick out a PINK room, to which I told him he was wrong. He said his official answer is I don't know because the baby's legs were closed the whole time. I told him his partner said a boy earlier, so basically they just don't know at all. Thankfully I get to have more done so hopefully next time they can make up their damn minds....

20 Week Prenatal Visit
I had my 20 week Prenatal visit last Friday (June 23rd).  It was another quick 5 minute appointment just to check things out.  I gained 5 more pounds from my last appointment, bringing my total so far to 9 POUNDS!!!! I couldn't believe what the scale said when I got on it. I have never seen it so much in my life. I think I will close my eyes for that part for the rest of my pregnancy..... The baby's heartbeat was 131 which is good.  It is amazing how fast the heart beats when you listen to it.  I also was given a "cocktail" for my next visit. I have to drink a bottle of this orange crap so they can run a glucose test on me.  Oddly enough, a lot of women develop diabetes from pregnancy so at this point in your pregnancy they do this test to determine it.  Looking forward to that one, I hear it tastes sooooooooo good!  The next OB appointment is July 21st......

Felt the baby kick me

Last night while I was watching the Yankee game, I felt the baby kick me. I had only felt fluttering in my stomach like butterflies up until now.  I was laying on my back with my hand on my stomach, and then all of the sudden my hand popped up off of it. I looked down and then saw my stomach pop out 2 more times! I was laughing because it felt so weird.  Now I have been feeling it constantly since then.  When my alarm went off this morning, i laid on my back for a few minutes and even felt it then. I guess the baby woke up too!!

Tomorrow is my next 4 week appointment with my doc and also my final ultrasound (if all is well) with the high risk doc. The only appointment I could get for the ultrasound is an early one, which is too early for Bobby to leave from work, so my mom is going with me.  She finally gets to see her grandchild in person!! If the baby cooperates, I will know the sex tomorrow, definitely looking forward to that!
