First Bad Fall... So last Thursday Carter, Cam and myself were outside after work. I was grilling and cleaning corn on the cob. Carter was in his stroller and Cam was playing with various toys in the driveway/yard.
Cam wanted my help with his 4wheeler so I walked over to help him and heard CRACK. I looked up and saw Carter laying face down on the tar driveway. I ran as fast as I could to pick him up - he was gasping for air and then SCREAM!!!!!!!!!! I was scared out of my mind.
I could see that he scraped his face/forhead up pretty bad instantly. I was craddling him saying "Oh my god, oh my god" then "it's ok it's ok" bouncing up and down like a madwoman.
I knew Erik woudl be home very soon so I called my mom. I told her what happened and she told me to check his pupils, and asked if he was bleeding...she didn't know if I should bring him in but told me to call the nurse hotline.
Erik pulled in the driveway and he immediately knew something was wrong - I was bawling my eyes out and shaking uncontrollably. I told him what happened and Carter started to act funny by now. He was very tired and starting to fall asleep (and it was not nap time!) so no questions asked, I brought him to the ER.
I walked in and they didnt' ask me any questions, they saw him sleeping in his car seat and brought me straight back to a room. They were very speedy and took it very seriously so that was nice. A change from my normal experiences with Fairview.
It turns out that everything is fine. Carter was ok and we were told to use a cold compress for the swelling and to use tylenol or motrin for the pain. We had a sheet of things to look for regarding closed head injuries. We also had to wake him up every 2 hours to make sure he was ok.
Needless to say, Thursday was a rough night. Mom will never forget to buckle him in from here on out!! I felt like the worst mom ever - thank god he is ok. |
