37 Week Check Up

I had my 37 week check up yesterday and all is well with little Jacob.  His heart beat sounded perfect and the doctor did a quick ultrasound to check if his head was pointed down, and it is!  (GOOD BOY, JACOB!)  I'm not at all dialated yet.

I have an ultrasound tomorrow to get more details about my little guy.  We're looking to see how heavy he has gotten and if my fibroid is in the way or not.  We're hoping his head is already past in and that I won't have to have a c-section.  We're crossing our fingers!  I'll update again after my ultrasound tomorow.

36 Week Check-Up

I had my 36 week check up and here's what we know right now:

  • It looks like Jacob has probably flipped finally into the head down position.  She couldn't say for sure, but she thinks she feels a head.
  • We won't know about whether or not I'm having a c-section until the 27th when I have my next ultrasound.  It did sound more promising yesterday though like maybe I wouldn't have to have a c-section!
  • She couldn't feel my fibroid, so maybe it's not in the way.
  • I'm not dialated at all yet.
  • I lost 4 pounds since my appointment last week!    I've been sick with a cold, so I'm sure that's what did it.
  • Jacob was a little stubborn with his movements on Sunday ... he didn't move all day.  Sunday night, I told Michael that if Jacob didn't move by morning I was calling the doctor.  I guess the threat was all it took, because he started moving.  Anyway, the doctor just wanted to check on him because of that, so she sent me upstairs to be monitored for his movements.  He was a GOOD LITTLE BOY and moved a lot for us (I think the apple juice they gave us helped!).  They only kept me there for like 20 minutes.  The lady said he looked BEAUTIFUL!  It was relaxing laying there listening to his little heart beat.

I guess that's it for today.  Next appointment is next Tuesday.

Breast Feeding Class

Yesterday was breast feeding class.  This was the one class that Michael practically begged not to go to.  As it turns out, it's probably good that he didn't go ... he would have been bored.  There were a few dads there, but really I don't think they said much that was too interesting for dads.

I, on the other hand, found the class to be super informative!  I really enjoyed it.  The instructor was very enthusiastic and energetic and had some really good real life stories to share with us since she breast fed her three children and had different challenges with each of them.

She covered lots of really good material like latching on properly, different positions to hold the baby, foods to eat and avoid, how to PREVENT pain and if pain does occur, how to deal with it.  It was a really good class.

I'm a little concerned because it looks like I'll have to have a c-section and they recommend that you breastfeed your baby within 1 hour after birth.  However, it sounds like if you have a c-section, you may not get that opportunity for 2-3 hours.  She said it shouldn't be a MAJOR hurdle, but that I may want to ask to see a lactation nurse when it gets time to try for the first time with Jacob.  I'm bound and determined to breast feed him, so I'm sure we'll get through it.

I guess that's the upate for today.  We have 31 days until my due date!  WOO HOO!  Jacob will be here in a few weeks!!!

Baby Care Basics Class

Last night Mikey and I attended a "Baby Care Basics" class.  It was interesting and I was happy to hear Mikey say "I didn't know that" several times.  Apparently he learned a few new things too and enjoyed the class.

We learned how to swaddle the baby, different techniques to use to calm a fussy baby, how to get a baby to transition from being asleep in your arms to STAYING asleep in the crib and lots of other things.

Probably the most fascinating thing I learned last night was about breast milk.  We were having a discussion about the advantages of breastfeeding and they told us that breast milk was the best thing for healing diaper rash!  Weird huh?  I guess all the antibodies in the breast milk give it some healing power.  Okay ... so that was kind of weird right?  But then later we were talking about when babies get sick and what to use to treat different illnesses.  They said when a baby has an eye infection, the best thing for it is a little breast milk in the eye!  WHAT!??   They want me to squirt breast milk in my baby's eye?  LOL  That freaked me out a little!

Anyway ... it was a very informative class.

Yesterday I also had a doctor's appointment.  I only have 32 days until my due date!!  The doctor made it sound almost certain that I would have to have a c-section.  Two factors are coming into play.  First of all, Jacob is still in a breech position.  If he doesn't flip, I will definitely have to have a c-section.  Even if he does flip, though, I may still have to have a c-section because of a fibroid I have.  The doctor is not sure that Jacob's head can fit in my pelvis with the fibroid.  We'll know more in a few weeks I guess.

I also have a cold right now.    It stinks!  I asked the doctor if I could take anything and she actually said I could take Robitussin DM.  I was surprised.  I took some last night before bed and it gave me a little relief, but it was still a rough night.  I got up at like 1:30 a.m. to soak in a hot bath because I couldn't breathe or get comfortable.  I'm hoping I start feeling better VERY soon.

Well ... I gues that's the update for today.  Tonight I attend a breastfeeding class .. I'll probably update again tomorrow.
