Baptism Class

Well ~ we finally made it to the baptism class at church.  (Actually, we made it to class last week, but the instructor didn't show up.)  So this week, the instructor actually made it to class too.  How do I describe class? ....... Different.

What was I expecting from the baptism class?

  • What's the role of the god parents?
  • What are the things the priest will say and how are you expected to respond?
  • Where should you sit and then where should you stand when you go up on the alter?
  • What's the significance of all the things they use during the ceremony (like the candle)?
  • You know .... basic stuff

What did we actually learn during the session?    Well ... pretty much nothing!  The poor guy must have been at least 100 years old.  Well, maybe not quite 100, but he was pretty old.  He told us he had a heart attack 4 months ago and that he was on some medication that made him a little forgetful.  (thus, the missed class previously)  He then went on for an hour with a bunch of different Bible stories that didn't really seem to be connected to each other and skipped all over from other women who had babies, to the arabs, to the jews ... it was a very weird combination of stories.  I kept thinking to myself  "Okay .... what does this have to do with my baby's baptism?" .... So anyway, after an hour of these seemingly unrelated stories, we finally watched a video about baptism.  (Ah ... finally ... substance!)  The video, however, was only 10 minutes long and talked pretty vaguely about baptism.  It showed these two babies (not in our parish) being baptised.  When the video was over, the instructor said "Okay ... thanks for coming" ... That was it.  No questions.  No further elaboration.  Done!

We left the church and Jacob's god mother looked at me and said "I don't really feel like I learned anything".  LOL .... I agreed that I hadn't either.  I guess the good news is that we now have that "formality" out of the way and can get Jacob baptised once he's born.  That's what is most important to me.

Two-Thirds Done! WOW!

Well ... I'm 28 weeks now!  That means I'm in my THIRD TRIMESTER!  I'm two-thirds done!  Only 12 more weeks to go!  WOW!  That seems so crazy!  Jacob could be here within the next 12 weeks!    HOW EXCITING!  It doesn't seem like I have time to finish everything that still needs to be done.  We still have several classes to take in preparation for his arrival, we need to order his furniture, get diapers, have a baby shower and I'm sure there are a million other things to do that haven't even crossed my mind yet.

We tried to attend a baptism class at our church this past Friday, but the instructor didn't show up.  We figured something bad must have happened in order for the person not to show up.  Well, I called the church this morning, and apparently the guy just totally forgot about the class!    So anyway, they MAY reschedule it this week ... I guess we'll see.  I was all excited to get our first "official" baby thing done, but that didn't work out.  Thankfully, I didn't wait till the last minute to attend class.  I'm really hoping to have Jacob baptised at the Easter Vigil Mass, so hopefully that will work out.

Other than that, all is well with the pregnancy.  Still feeling Jacob moving around and kicking.  (Although, he's still pretty stubborn about letting you feel it with your hand.  As soon as Michael or I put our hand on my tummy, he quits kicking.  Little stinker!)

Daddy felt Jacob move!

Well, I'm a little late in updating this news, but last week (Dec. 7th), Michael finally got to feel Jacob move!

Jacob was doing some pretty good kicking, so I had Mikey put his hand on my tummy and soon, when Jacob kicked, Michael said it felt like a little wave going through my tummy.  Then, within a minute or so, Jadob gave him a good hard kick and he DEFINATELY felt that one!  It was so much fun!

New Pic of Jacob
Yesterday was my 26 week doctor appointment and ultrasound.  Everything looks good.  Jacob's heart rate was one fourty something and he is approximately 10 inches long and 1 pound 15 ounces.  I'm posting a new pic of him in the photo album.  It's a really cute shot of his face.  It looks like he's almost smiling and he has a little finger (or thumb) up in the air ~ SO CUTE!
