Baby has arrived!

Now We Wait

Not too much has happened since Christmas.  I've had 2 doctor's appointments and some bloodwork, but that is all.  Hard to believe they don't even re-test...just to be sure!  Now 7.5 weeks, we are starting to get anxious to share our news.  The girls from NB are planning a girls weekend getaway and somehow no one has asked why I am fully booked for the month of August! Can't wait to let the cat out of the bag.  Speaking of which, Riley called this morning to say that he wishes we could start telling people already!  One more week...one more week!

Happy to say that so far I have not been sick at all, just more hungry than usual and a little nauseous when I don't eat.  Hopefully this means I am off to a good start.  I am looking forward to telling everyone... anxious to start to look around for baby things...and of course the challenge of figuring out names.  Riley and I do not have any names picked out as of now...everyday one of us comes home with a new  name to run past the other.

Aside from that Riley has been fabulous!  I barely even have to do the dishes anymore!  I know I know... but I suppose I should take advantage of it before he gets sick of it all.  His least favorite job is the cat litter these days, but he's been a great sport.

The Best Christmas Surprise!

So, we are positively overjoyed by our news, realizing of course that this is VERY early to be telling everyone about it!  BUT, we are about to share 12 straight days with family that know me FAR too well to believe I would not entertain the idea of at least a glass of wine with Christmas supper!

So...we decide we are going to have to tell our immediate family members SOMETHING!

First we share the news with Riley's Mom, who was tickled to say the least!  She manages to promise that she will keep our news to herself for the time being, and was very excited for Riley's sisters to find out!  She still grimaces each time someone asks her " are you a Grandma YET?!"  Answering "NO" is not totally a lie!

Then we appear on Eddie's door step late Friday night.  He offers all sorts of yummy drinks to me, offering a different kind each time I respond "no thankyou" to his previous suggestion!  Riley grabs him by the shoulders and says "she can't have any because we think you are going to be a Grandpa"!  In a bit of a tizzy, Eddie then starts pulling out all sorts of food, 4 buns, a carved up ham, some cheese...and insists I must eat something.  Telling me to sit down and put my feet up,....tearing into the cracker box!  It was hilarious! I insisted I was perfectly fine to fix my own food and stand/sit/whatever!  When we returned to his house the next day, he had marked, as a momento, "Dec 21, K&R news" with black jiffy marker on the mustard bottle we had used that nite!  He figures that bottle should still be around by the time our bundle of joy joins us!

Then come the Spak sisters!  At brunch on Saturday the 22nd, we persuade Jessica to come on over to join us for some food, as I hear Riley tell Jessica over the phone "no worries, Kyla is hung over too"!  Thinking we wanted to tell Alicia and Jessica together that evening we wanted to keep it underwraps for now.  Then, however, we find out that they will not be together until the 24th with both of their working schedules so we decide we had better tell Jessica while she was there.  She was shocked and excited, but then looked puzzled as she asked "well, if you are pregnant...then how can you be hung over??"!  Once we assured her, it was only a lie, she returned to being very excited!  When we told Alicia that same night I think she almost cried.  She said it was the best surprise and news... I think that finally got her into the Christmas spirit!

Then came time to tell my Dad and Leslie.  We had arranged to celebrate his bday the evening of the 23rd, we even planned to stay over at their house.  Of course the moment we arrived he decided to pour everyone all sorts of drinks.  I pushed one wine glass to the side and told him I thought he had better put one away... he was mildly confused and asked if I wanted something else.  Then Leslie says "you're not drinking anything??".... a sly grin our faces said the rest.  A while later, Leslie claimed to still be shocked by our news!  Needless to say the evening of beverage sipping was not quite what it was planned to be.  When we went to bed there was even champagne and champagne flutes waiting for our consumption (Thanks guys!)... none of which I was able to enjoy!!

Ok- so lastly comes my Mom & Neil, Julie & Clinton.  We arrived in Meadow Lake on the 26th... I had promised Mom I had gotten her the BEST Christmas present ever!  While going through the gifts we had gotten, I pulled out the "what to expect..." book...and said "Mom, look what Riles got me"!  It took her a minute... but then the oo-ing and ah-ing began and the hugs...and crying I may hazard to say!  She was ecstatic!  Clint  & Julie arrived a few hours later... Clinton was showing off some of Wyatt's cool little clothes... Riley grabbed hold of the little furry jacket and asked Clinton if it would be alright if we borrowed it in a few months!  His eyes bulged out of his head as he asked "are you serious"!  Him and Jules are both excited to have a little friend for Wyatt...and most of all one to share their "sucky" birthdays with (according to Clinton, summer bdays are the WORST!)

So for now, that sums up all of the people that are aware of our little secret!

Positively Positive

On December 20th, being only a few days late, I was finally convinced that this could be it.  A few funny things told me that this was different. I had told myself before that I would not test too early as I wanted to avoid disappointment.  But this time I was so sure that I rushed anxiously to the drug store on the way home from work.  This, of course, being moments before we were to be on the road home for Christmas!

With the test in hand I rushed home to get the results!  I was not at all surprised by what I saw...although a diferent brand of test may have been better, for I found this one oddly confusing!  But after reading and re-reading the instructions several times I was pretty sure I had it cased.  Now-- Riley had still not returned home from work. I wanted to surprise him with his best Christmas present ever!

Unbeknownst to Riles, I had been stashing the most adorable cream colored baby blanket for months with the intent that one day we would use it for our baby.  I know, kinda weird, but I figured if nothing else it would make a great baby gift for someone else!  I wrapped it all up for him and waited for him to get home!

Once he had arrived I presented him with the present and insisted he must open this one before we leave for the holidays.  After some resistance he finally did. To which his response was "well who is this for?".  I replied "IT'S FOR US!!!".  He honestly thought I was joking!  I had to dig out the test as proof!  After some excitement, we continued on packing and prepared to leave.

While sitting in McDonalds, avoiding rush hour traffic, I chattered a mile a minute while Riles was rather quiet.  Since I had confessed the test was mildly confusing, he suggested we wait to do another before getting too far ahead of ourselves.  Knowing there was NO way I could drive 6 hours without blabbing about it the whole time, we tore off to the drug store (the same one!) to get another test...different brand this time!

In the store I also had realized I did not bring my prenatal vitamins so thought I would pick up some new ones.  As I am ready to pay Riley calls my cell to request some Red Bull. Well the only way to by it was in a 4pack!  So here I am buying a pregnancy test, prenatal viatamins and a 4pack of Red Bull!  I wonder what the pharmacist was thinking!

So, I managed to wait about 2.5 hours before I insisted we stop at a Tim Hortons to retake the test!  Again, we still had 3.5 hours of good driving time left...and I couldn't wait!  So into the public bathroom I go. Thank God I didnt have to wait the full 3 minutes.... as it was POSITIVELY POSITIVE within minutes!!

I don't think there was a moment of silence the entire rest of the way to NB!!!!  We are both very excited about what lies ahead and I am thrilled by the thought of having a miniature Riley in my life!

A Dream or Prediction?

The night of Tuesday, December 18th, I had some wild and crazy dreams! One of which was the dream about me having morning sickness.  Hmmm...one could only hope as many things I have dreamt had turned out to be real in the past.  But again, I thought my imagination was likely getting the best of me...but time would tell!
