Daddy's Keen Eye

Well, Riley can certainly not complain that he has not had a say in the baby preparations!

This weekend we spent some time shopping... AGAIN.  We didnt buy much but it seems whatever we bought was Riley's selection... and I didn't mind one bit!  First we were shopping for something almost completely unrelated to baby...new curtains for the bedroom... with my sleep issues lately.. I insisted it was time for new DARK drapes to keep as much light out as possible!  After a few stores... and some debating over what size we needed, Riley had "put his foot down" and determined the curtains we would buy!  Once getting them home they were PERFECT..he says he never knew he had such a keen eye for "decor"!

Then we were on a mission to buy a crib mattress.  Not only did my hubby pick out the BEST mattress for our little one...but it was also on sale!  Now we can get on with the bedding!  In another kids store he picked out the most adorable night light.  Although this seemed like somewhat unnecessary at this time, Emer now has the most adorable "man in the moon" night light...all ready to go!  Lastly, while shopping in Sears for stroller options, Riley also decided to pick out a SNUGLI... after weighing the options he picked the best one for the job. I thinkhe was really quite proud of himself..and I was happy I didn't have to make any decisions!

Aside from the shopping not too much else is new.  I really thought I would have some progress to report in the way of a baby bump, but after taking the picture last night, I don't even see a change! I was convinced it would be noticeable..as now it seems I can't "suck in my tummy" as much any more!  Oh well...maybe next week!  I am happy to say that I think another massage on SATURDAY may have done the trick in curing this pesky neck/head ache!  Last night was the first night in a long time without waking up due to a headache!  May try to sneak just ONE more in, but we will see....at this rate our benefits for the year will be used up by March!

Well...that's all to report from the Spak's today!  Thanks for checking out the site... hope everyone is doing really well!

Ultrasound Update

Well on Friday we finally got to see our little Emer on the ultrasound.  The baby is very active so we were able to see it from many angles.  The pcitures they gave are of course somewhat difficult to interpret...but none the less there is a healthy baby in there.  Its little heart is beating at 150bpm(old wives tale tells us over 140 means GIRL...but who knows).. and measures 3.5 inches.  This also confirms our due date as Aug 25.  They did some bloodwork on me, and measure the fluid on the back of the baby's head in order to determine my risk for a baby with a chromosome related defect such as down syndrome.  When it was all said and done they determined the risk to be 1:28500...so I think we are in the clear!

It is still hard to believe there is really something inside me... I had to tell Riley that he is not the only one that doesnt exactly FEEL like anything has really changed.  I think that once the belly starts to swell it will sink in quickly.  As you can see from the 3 pics I posted...not much is going on yet...but it shouldnt be long now.

On the weekend we visited Alicia and Brian in Saskatoon which was a nice relaxing weekend.  We managed to sneak in some maternity/baby shopping on SAT...man stuff is overpriced in those stores!!  I think Friday night was the latest I have been up in MONTHS...made 2am...only because I snoozed on the drive I am sure.  But even the other nights I was feeling much better for longer as compared to how I have been the last couple months.  I hope this means Riley and I can actually go to bed at the same time for a change..and that I can stay awake on the couch past 9pm!

Have a great week everyone!

Shopping For Baby

Well on Saturday we headed out shopping for the day with Mom, Julie and Wyatt.  Wyatt was a perfect angel and made me realize things will slow down a bit for us once our baby comes...but not too much!

We managed to find a few cool shirts at one maternity store....good news is i can totally wear them now and will be able to wear them once I am bigger too.  Aside from that we were so lucky to find the perfect crib at one store.  It was the last one in the certain stain and was on sale for a fabulous price so now we have the most adorable crib and we still have money left!! :)  I plan to post pics once I am back home.  Yes, currently Emer and I are in the middle of nowhere in Saskatchewan at our plant.  It's kinda nice to know that I am not truly alone here... I like that!  Back to shopping...aside from the tops and the crib we all managed to control ourselves. It was nice to have Julie with me as she could point out all the good and bad things about everything from strollers to furniture!  I had hoped we would make use of little Wyatt when it came to trying stuff out, but we didnt seem to need to do it this trip...although he sure did check out the crib for his cousin-will also post a pic of that soon!

Lately I have been suffering from only one issue-- a SORE SORE neck!  After many sleepless nights with headaches...and I kid you not...over 5 different pillows... I am happy to say that last night was the first headache free night in about 2 weeks.  Not sure if it was thee heat pads (self adhesive) I used yesterday or the aches and pains bath stuff that Meghan got me onto...but it worked!  Here's hoping we can have at least 1 more painfree sleep!!

Well, have a fabulous day everyone!!  Stay tuned for the pics coming soon!!

Why Emer!?

OK-- so it has occured to me that some of you do not have a clue how Emer came to be...well obviously how it CAME to be...but why the name!  Short explanation!

A while back I had come across the name EMER.. it was on facebook actually... someone had added someone called EMER and the girl was a really pretty girl...hence I found the name to be kinda pretty and different.  So when I went home I asked Riley what he thought of the name.  He then replied that it sounded like ELMER... kinda of like you were calling your dog in from outside...like "here Emer, HERE EMER"!  After a few more hilarious jokes about it... it was firmly settled we would not name our first born Emer...not after he made fun of it anyways.  He continued to make fun of it over Xmas with everyone... I am sure if a person just HEARD the name randomly they would think it was an OK name... but now that it's been ridiculed by my husband... we have settled with calling our unborn cutie...little EMER.  Now when Riles tells me he loves me or asks how I am it's always... "Love you and Emer" or "how are you and Emer?!"  It's so cute...its the perfect name for our baby right now...but rest assured that will not be it's name indefinitely!  Unless of course this sticks as the baby's nickname!! :)
