big sister sydney

jeff told sydney that she was going to be a big sister and she was so super excited!  we coudn't have asked for a better response.  she is really hoping for a girl because "when boys turn about 8 or 9 they are weird and eat green french fries".  we'll do our best to give you a sister sydney.  she is quite excited to be able to help teach him/her to skate and swim and ride a bike.  sydney also wanted to help out with the name selection process.  highlighter in hand, she spent quite a bit of time reading the baby name book.  it's very nice that she wants to be a part of all of it.  she was also quite excited to tell jeff's family at dinner.  i know she will be a great big sister.  i just wonder what trouble they will get into when sydney is 26 and new baby is 16!!

immune system takes a beating
i am now 7 weeks pregnant.  but, i have not be paying any attention to the symptoms over the last 5 days.  i had read that my immune system would not be up to par during pregnancy.....did i ever find that out!!!  i started a cough on thursday morning and by thursday evening i felt like i was hit by a truck.  oh the aches and pains!!!  i couldn't move on friday and wasn't sure if i could take anything for pain.  i was almost in tears because of the constant intense aches in my head, back, hips, and knees.  finally i called the telehealth number and got the go-ahead for tylenol.  yipee!  thank god for tylenol.  although it helped with the aches and pains i got increasingly more congested...both my sinuses and chest.  thank god for puffs plus with vicks scent.  ahhh!  my nose thanks you.  it is now monday and i am STILL sick and off work.  a nasty cough will not go away but at least i can breathe through my nose.  but now my ears are plugged.  argh!  i have never had a cold this bad or last this long in my life.  chalk it up to pregnancy.  i hope to be feeling better soon because i am so sick of being sick.  at least i did not lose my appetite and was able to eat and drink a lot of fluids.  gotta keep baby happy even though i am miserable!

starting to let the news out

so, my mom got her package several days before i thought she would.  she got to surprise me with the news that she got my news!  she was soooo excited.  of course she thought that i didn't want to have kids so the news came as a big happy surprise.  she thought i had sent the package to the wrong person when she saw the baby outfit!  after the news settled a little she went and told my nan, who was equally as surprised.  my mom couldn't wait to the the news to colin.  well, actually i got to tell him on the phone.  i told him he was going to be a grandpa and asked if we could call him "papa".  he responded with, and i quote, "what, are you knocked up?"  i just died laughing.  typical colin style!  my mom decided that she will be "nana".  so they are settled: nana and papa.

jeff told sara yesterday.  well, actually she guessed right away when he left her a message that he had some news.  she was so happy for us.  i hope this means she will come visit us more often!!  perhaps the new baby will be motivation for close friends to come see us a lot more.....that's fine with me!

i also told jeff yesterday (my cousin).  i told him that mya (his new daughter) will have someone to play with.  he was confused and said "oh yeah, who".  then i proceded to tell him the good news.  since he and holly have just been through this journey i know they will be helpful when needed.  not to mention some hand-me-downs!  i wll have to practice feeding, burping, and changing diapers with mya.

hmmmm, who to tell next?  now that i have started letting the news out it makes it harder to wait the 3 months to let everyone know. i will do my best.  but, my list does include my jenn (best friend) and andrea (cousin).  perhaps tonight!

first entry

well, it's official!  i am pregnant!  we tried for about 4 months before it actually happened. i got the official news on january 16, 2008 and i was just beaming.  i was so excited and anxious that i couldn't find the words to tell jeff.  i gave him a book called "she's having a baby, i'm having a meltdown" and he quickly figured it out!  we were so happy and in shock that it was really true.

i am now 5 weeks pregnant as i write this message.  i am feeling great so far.  a little queasy now and then, but mostly if i am hungry....which seems to be more often.  i am keeping up with the gym but lowering the intensity of my workouts.  i want to be a fit mama!

we have told jeff's parents and my dad.  i gave my dad a baby sleeper with "spoiled by grampa" written on it.  he was confused at first but then clued in.  so fun to surprise people!  he was really happy and speechless at first.  i sent my mom a sleeper that says "made you smile" with a card explaining why.  she is in florida now and i won't see her until march or april and i couldn't wait until then.  she should get it this week.  we are trying to wait the 3 months to tell our friends, but i think that might go out the window!  we'll see how long the good news will stay between just us.
