telling the world

we decided last week that we would let the good news out!  I started with both of my bosses and had fun telling the news.   we both told everyone close to us on the phone or in person, so we decided to let the facebook world know!  we both got a few quick replies with nice words and congratulations.  it was so fun to tell people finally.  good news seems to spread more slowly than bad, unfortunately, and I am sure there are lots of people who don't know yet.  oh well, the rumour mill will turn soon enough!

I am still feeling pretty great.  this bloating and gas does bother me by the end of the day.  and also being "backed up"....a preexisiting condition of mine is constipation.  woo hoo, what fun.  I cannot possibly eat any more fiber!  I am trying to drink more, as I did cut back on the water consumption due to frequent bathroom breaks.  now that everyone at work knows they will forgive my constant use of the bathroom I am sure!

We go for the first ultra sound next week (the one to check for spina bifida and other abnormalities).  I am so excited to see the baby that is in there.  the following week we get to hear the heartbeat....and that is so exciting too!! this month things are starting to happen!!

the bump has started

I am still feeling pretty good!  I still get tired, but not as much as a few weeks ago.  I am able to make it through the day without napping on my desk at work!  my hunger has tapered off, mostly because of the continued gas and bloating.  my clothes are definitely not fitting very well anymore.  I have a small belly now and I actually took out both of my belly button rings on the weekend.  it looked so weird!! I have had those in there for years!  but I don't want the holes to stretch along with my belly so out they came.  I feel like I tucking in my belly and hiding it a little at work.  I have decided that this is the week to tell the boss (at the hospital).  I will have to figure out how I can tell my other boss in person (since the office is up north and I am not available during business hours).  I know both bosses will just be happy for me so there is no stress involved.  It's up to them to plan for the year of my maternity leave.  although, I am planning to try to keep some of the homecare business going if I can.  at least my infant clients, since I am the only therapist who works with that population.  plus I love working with the babies and their families.  my mom asked me if this is why I decided to have my own and I think in part it was.

my clothes are shrinking!

I am now 9 weeks pregnant (I think, although this site says 8 weeks, I am confused about my due date) and still feeling pretty good for the most part.  well, in comparison to the symptoms I have read about in the pregnancy books.  I have put on a few pounds though.  I wasn't expecting to be so hungry!  I have put on about 4-5 pounds already.....I must slow down or else I will end up with a 10 pound baby and given my small frame, that would be a difficult labour and delivery!!  I feel like my clothes are shrinking.  they don't seem to fit well, especially around the middle.  I have always had a small waist and tend to gain weight in my legs so this is a whole new experience.  I am looking forward to the end of the first trimester so I can tell the world I am pregnant (which will explain my weight gain too).

I was thinking about my pre-existing conditions and wonder if I have been pregnant for years!  Here is a list of occasional or regular problems I have: headaches, low back pain, frequent urination, fatigue, constipation, reflux, and teeth sensitivity.  All I was missing was the hormones and the belly!  so far these symptoms haven't worsened too bad, but I am anticipating that they will.  right now my biggest complaint is gas and bloating after I eat.  and this week I have had a few headaches.  not too bad, really.  I hope that my pregnancy continues to progress like this!

I went to see my doctor for my first prenatal appointment.  she sent a referral for an OB.  the visit was pretty uneventful though.  she picked a due date from a cardboard wheel, which was September 26.  I like the date a website picked better, which was September 20.  I guess I will just have to wait.  I am going for an ultrasound on March 20 as part of genetic screening.  I mostly want to do the test just to get an ultrasound!  I would have had to wait until week 18 otherwise.  so if I must endure some additional blood work to get the ultrasound, so be it!

coughing, but keeping fit
well, my cold is still with me.  i feel much less fatigued...just the normal pregnancy fatigue.  but this annoying cough will not go away!  it has been 2 weeks now.  but i feel well enough to go back to the gym.  that has made me feel better even though i am a little winded on the elipitcal machine.  i plan to keep up the gym routine thoughout the pregnancy.....i hope i can!  luckily when i am big in the summer i can swim in my own backyard and not have to find the motivation to get my big belly to the gym.  i wonder if i will be able to ride a bike?  we typically go on so many bike rides in the summer with the dog.  i wonder if i will be to top heavy and off balance for that activity?  i will have to wait and see.....like everything with pregnancy.  it's all a game of wait and see.  like: will i ever truly get morning sickness? (please no!!) will my chonic sore back handle the new load?  for now i will enjoy the fact that my symptoms are very mild and not worry too much about what is in store.
