We went for our 3D ultrasound on Monday. It was so amazing. When she first tried to get a look at the baby, s/he was facing my spine and in breech position. After some giggling of my belly and turning on my side, we were able to at least get a profile of the baby. It seems s/he had found a cozy spot to relax....on the placenta! so cute! his/her head was up near my right ribs and the feet were close to my cervix. hopefully this position will change closer to delivery time.
we wanted to check out the nose, since Jeff has kind of a big one. we were hoping the baby didn't inherit that trait from him. it was really funny because s/he kept a hand up around the face for a long while. even after we got to see the ear, eyes, and cheeks s/he was still covering the nose! it was like s/he was teasing us, "nope, you can't see it just yet!". very cute. we got some great shots of him/her covering the nose. finally we got to see and it looks like a nice small one. of course the baby would be gorgeous no matter what, but nice to see that it might be more like my nose in there. we did think the eyes looked really big, which we were hoping for. Jeff has really big blue eyes and Sydney (his daughter) inheritied them. she is just gorgeous and gets comments on her eyes all the time. We are hoping this baby gets the baby blues as well. one of the shots kind of looked like Sydney. it's amazing what technology can do. I just loved this experience. the greatest part was that we went the week before Father's Day and the clinic was having a special. We got the CDrom with still pictures and the DVD all for the price of the still picture only package! This was great since I wasn't going to pay the extra for the DVD...but I will take it for free!

a leg to stand on
Well, the 6 month mark brought on a new (and annoying) symptom. Yesterday I had the worst leg cramp all day. it got much worse towards the end of the day. it started with a little heel pain (which I am used to) and it spread up my calf and shin to my knee. it was weird that it was only in one leg...but thank goodness for that. I need at least one good leg please! I put my legs up on my desk for a while at work and that helped for a short time. the long drive in the evening is what made it much worse, I think. even though I tried to drive with my leg up on the dash (very cute picture!) I was limping by the time I got home. sitting with the one leg elevated helped a lot, but as soon as I got up to get a drink it started all over again. then I woke up this morning with both hips and both knees aching and I couldn't get comfortable. I took this as a sign to get up early so I got myself to the gym. perhaps this helped becasue my leg feels good so far today (although, it is only 1030). we'll see what the day brings! I see my chiropractor on Friday so I will mention this to him and also to my yoga instructor on Saturday. hopefully one of them will have a great stretching solution or something!
I have another appointment with the OB today. I am sure just a quick check up. Jeff decided to come so he can meet the doctor who will be bringing the baby into the world. I like that he wants to be involved....even though he has tons of work to do around the house. it will only be a half an hour or so!
what I am most excited about right now is our 3D ultrasound coming up on Monday!! I can't wait to see the baby again and in much better definition than the traditional ultrasound. I hope we get some great pictures. I booked it for the week before Father's Day so we could have something to give the two grampas...a framed picture of their new grandchild!

he can feel it!
I just wanted to write a quick entry since yesterday was a milestone. Last night the baby was kicking up a storm while I was relaxing on the couch. I could see the movements from the outside...so cool! the baby settled down a little when Jeff gof home, but then s/he started up again while we were lying in bed reading. I told Jeff to put his hand on my belly and he got to feel the kicks for the first time! so exciting! now I just have to catch the kicks so Jeff can see the big ones. I think this is so neat.
Since this was a short entry, I thought I would take the time to write a list of symptoms I have been experiencing so far in the pregnancy:
nose bleeds (almost every morning), fingernails growing very fast, hair growing faster, hip soreness when sleeping, heartburn/reflux, bad skin (during the first part of the second trimester, now my skin is great), fatigue, headaches, sore feet, itchy belly, bigger and sometimes sore boobs, gagging while brushing my teeth (sometimes with a little vomit), absentmindedness, lack of motivation at work (hmm, is this really a pregnancy symptom?), and bloating.
I must say that the good symptoms definitely outweigh the bad. I love how much I am feeling the baby kicks now and also that my belly looks like I am prego, not just chubby!

what a relief!
we went for our monthly doctor's appointment last week. she told us the results of the genetic screening was negative, thank goodness. however, she did not yet have a copy of the ultrasound report. I guess they don't hurry these things even for hospital employees! a week later though? what if I was waiting to find out the gender? I would have been really annoyed if I wanted to know....luckily we don't! we discussed the fact that I am so tired all the time, even at 10:00am. I guessed I was low in iron, since I don't eat many iron rich foods and I was low in iron when I was in highschool. that was before I had a baby sucking the blood from me! so I went for blood work. I got a call last Thursday from the doctor's office asking me to come into "discuss your test results". at first I thought, "perfect, I was right about the iron and maybe there is a solution to my fatigue". then later on that night a scary thought hit me.....my doctor didn't have the ultrasound report last time we were there. what if there was something wrong with the baby, something the genetic screening wouldn't see like cleft palate of something. jeff and I stressed about this until Tuesday, when sure enough it was the blood work results and I am low in iron. Whew! what a relief! everything with the ultrasound was fine.
over the weekend I had crazy heartburn everyday! it ruined my appetite, which might not be so bad sometimes! but we were up at the cottage and jeff's parents tend to have big meals and desserts. I was suffering! I finally decided to get some Zantac since my doctor said it was ok. what a relief! that constant burn in my chest was gone in no time! I will continue with the Tums since I get calcium from them, but good to know that I have something stronger when I need it.
