Baby has arrived!

first ultrasound

I had my first ultrasound today !  It was such an amazing and marvelous experience!  It was so sublime to see my baby up on the monitor!!  I was stunned!  There is a tiny little peanut of a person growing inside me!!  How wonderful!!  The lady doing the ultrasound had to put some gel on my stomach before running this thing over my belly... that's all she did and the baby appeared on the monitor!!  I could see its little head !  She said there was only one baby so I'm not having twins or triplets.  One little beautifully divine miracle of the Lord is growing inside my body!!  I also got to hear the heartbeat again and that doesn't cease to be amazing!  She gave me some pictures to take with me.  Afterwards, I waited in the waiting room to see the doctor.  When I saw him, he told me that I was not as far along as he had originally thought.  Judging from the date of my last period, I should be 12 wks 6 days along; however, the size of the baby from crown to rump suggests that I am 10 wks 6 days along.  I was not surprised.  I told him that my cycles are usually long and irregular.  Plus I had an ovulation test come up + on May 02 which was 28 days after my last period.  That is weird because usually a woman ovulates between 10 and 14 days after her period.  I'm different though.  So anyways... the doctor said that everything looked normal.  Then, he signed off on January 26, 2008 as the due date!  That is the day before my birthday!  The visit did not take long at all.  Afterwards, I went to the National Guard Armory to show Chris the pictures since he couldn't go to the ultrasound with me.  I was sad that he couldn't be there, but it's ok.  He already heard the heartbeat yesterday and he got to see the pictures... so he didn't miss out too much.  And also, I was told today that there will be another ultrasound when I am 20 weeks that will last longer, and at that ultrasound we'll be able to tell if it's a boy or girl and also see features and organs and such... we can order a DVD and pictures as well.  When I got to the armory, the new commander had just gotten there from Austin... everyone was taking their hour lunch break.  So Chris and I got to eat lunch together at Chick-fil-A and talk about the ultrasound and the pictures.  I was SO EXCITED!  Chris was amazed to see the pictures.  I had showed them to him in the car on the way to Chick-fil-A.  "It's like a tiny person!" he said and I laughed.  "It's just so tiny!!"  he exclaimed.  After lunch, Chris had to pick something up at Office Depot for the armory and then I took him back to work.  He kept one of the pictures with him, and I took the other picture home with me... it is now hanging up on the fridge!  What an awesome experience I had today!

the heartbeat!!
Yesterday was my first ob appointment at 8 am.  I liked the doctor; he was nice.  The nurse asked me questions and then told me to lay down and undo my pants so she could measure me and look for a heartbeat.  Well, she couldn't get a good measurement of my uterus.  So she took out this handheld machine and pressed it on my belly and moved it around, and then the most amazing thing happened!  Chris and I heard a kind of "thumpthump-thumpthump".  It is really hard to describe the sound.  The nurse said "There it is!  The heartbeat!"  Chris says, "the baby's heartbeat?"  I felt like saying "No, chris... i have an extra heart in my belly!"  ha!  It was such an amazing, humbling experience!  It made it so real to hear that there really is a little person inside me!  Soon after the heartbeat started, it stopped.  The nurse said, "The baby moved." So she moved the little machine around to find the heartbeat again but my little baby was hiding from her.  Apparently, even this early in the pregnancy, babies don't like to feel something pressing against them.  OH man but it was SO AMAZING!  I just keep looking at my belly thinking "You're in there!  You're in there!  Moving around!"  And if I press down on my belly it makes me think "The baby is probably moving away from the pressure".  I'm so excited and happy!!!

Four Year Anniversary

Yesterday was mine and Chris's four year anniversary.  We had a special day.  Chris surprised me by taking off of work... but he pretended to go to work, and then came home with lilies (my favorite flower).  Later we had a picnic at the park, and then we ate at Mercado's.  I have been feeling better the past few days and not as nauseous so I thought I could handle Mercado's... and I did, but I still think I am going to stay away from mexican food for a while as it did not completely agree with me.  I didn't vomit though which is good because I had been vomitting everything up the past couple of weeks.  It's only the past couple of days that I stopped vomitting as much (though food still comes back up every now and then).

I have to admit that being pregnant is one wild roller coaster ride.  Sometimes I feel as if I've completely lost control of my own body and my mind... with my body doing weird things and my emotions running wild like they are.  I guess it is true to say that my body is no longer my own though... another little person needs to call it home for a few months.  Chris and I had a fight the other day, but it ended well because we talked and he suddenly understood things about the pregnancy that he didn't understand before.  So that's good.  I explained to him how I don't sleep throughout the night because I am constantly woken up by nausea or my bladder.  I also explained that even though I say I sleep until noon... it really is just in 2 or 3 hour spurts because I'm constantly having to get up to pee or the nausea wakes me up or I just can't get comfortable.  Plus I explained to him that my moods go crazy was mainly due to the pregnancy.  Now he understand a little more of what I'm going through.  I need to remember to talk to him more about things that are affecting me because he doesn't know (well, obviously he doesn't).

It is exciting to know that in the past few weeks, my baby's heart and brain have formed... that it's little heart is beating and that it can feel now.  Plus some of the intestines have formed.  I am almost nine weeks pregnant, and my baby is nearly an inch long with a larger head than body.  And according to what I've read on babycenter.com, my baby's heart is continuing to develop.  The little ears are starting to form and will be done by the end of the week!  And there is a little mouth and a little nose.  And touchpads are forming on his/her tiny fingers.  And my baby can move its limbs also!  As for what sex the baby will be, those organs have started to form but are not distinguishable as male or female yet.  That'll take a few more weeks (I can't wait!).  And all of this is happening inside of me!  Wow!

My First Journal Entry -- 8 weeks along

Well, this pregnancy is a great blessing and Chris and I are both excited.  It's been an exciting couple of months.  We planned this pregnancy, but we were both shocked at how quickly I got pregnant.  We started thinking about having a baby in January of this year.  We already were not using birth control.  In April, I started charting my basal temperature because my monthly cycle was too irregular to pinpoint exactly when I ovulated... I also started taking ovulation tests.  I also went to the doctor in April worried about fertility issues because we've never used birth control and I've never gotten pregnant.  Well, the doctor did some blood tests and my blood sugar and cholesterol were off.  He gave me some medicine for my blood sugar, and suggested I watch my diet.  He also suggested I start taking ovulation tests to make sure I was ovulating.  Well, I was already doing that... and on May 2 the ovulation test came up positive which meant I would be ovulating within 36 hours.  Chris and I were excited and hoped it would lead to a positive pregnancy test although we were kind of expecting it to take longer.  Well, it didn't... on May 19 I took a pregnancy test that came up positive and on May 21 my doctor confirmed it.  I was pregnant!  We told family immediately who were all happy and excited!

Now, it's been almost a month since we found out I was pregnant.  Before the home pregnancy test came up positive, I wasn't really having any symptoms except that my breasts were sore.  Afterwards, I started getting the morning sickness and the extreme fatigue hit me.  Throughout the next few weeks, the nausea got worse until I was vomitting almost everything I ate.  I've lost a few pounds because of that.  I'm also tired all day long.  Yesterday, however, my nausea eased up a bit and I started eating better.  I'm also feeling a bit better today.  I've started wanting dill pickles, which is weird for me because I normally don't like dill pickles.  But I like them now... I guess that is a change that came with the pregnancy.  I've also started eating olives more.  I've always loved olives though, it's just that I've been wanting them more.  I've also noticed that my mood fluctuates easily now and I go from happy to sad or upset very quickly.

This is my first pregnancy, so it is amazing to me to read about how the baby is developing.  I love to read about it!  It makes all the nausea, fatigue, and moodiness worth it.
