I saw him?! I saw him! Or her! Or it!!!
We made it in time for our appointment and were both totally excited to get things underway. I still don't think Ryan knew what he was in for. We got there and didn't have too much of a wait- maybe 10 minutes or so. They took us in and first thing we asked was whether we could use the video camera to tape the screen she was using, but there were no cameras allowed whatsoever :(. After i got settled, I was shockingly surprised by the warmth of the jelly! I expected to be shocked with ice cold cream like when you squirt lotion on your back, but this stuff was HOT! She said it was straight out of the warmer, so it was nice!
Betty (the lady doing the ultrasound) told us she would do all her measurements, counts, etc first and then she would let us see the action. Ryan could watch her do her own stuff, but the screen was at an angle that I couldn't see it. Baby was tucked way down in the bottom corner as far as she could go, so was not making it easy for pictures. She really struggled especially to get a view of the heart. Eventually she came out of hiding after trying me on my side, and tipping my bed so my head was way lower than my feet. Ryan said baby was very still at first to the point that he was really nervous about whether it was OK. He was amazed by the details of the heart pumping when she zoomed in on it (I still couldn't see at this point). Finally, he saw the legs stretch out, but besides that I think the baby slept through most of the measurements... either that or thats just what he is telling me so I don't feel bad that I got a 5 minute show and he got a 30 minute one :)
Anyways, I didn't get all the numbers, but I do know the heart rate was 161, baby weighs 9 oz and the best news is... my duedate is back to the original August 19th rather than the 23rd!!! The doctor had always said the 19th, but after my internal, I had convinced myself that the 23rd was more accurate because the doctor "couldn't be sure if it was 7 or 8 weeks at this point". I figured better to get a later date in my head than to be disappointed now.. but that means I'm not 17 weeks 4 days now.. I'm 18 weeks 2 days judging by their measurements!! Now, of course this could just be attributed to the babies height if it has my familys genes... but since 2/3 dates say the 19th, I'll go with that! It puts it closer to travelling time (Ryan and I are gone from August 2nd til 10th ish) but it gives me a couple extra days alone at the end of the month before school starts.
Oh, I'll leave it to you to guess which one of us was teary eyed and sniffling by the end of the US. One hint: it wasn't me :)
Also, Ryan THINKS he saw a little jigger. Enough that he is convinced that it is a boy. I still think girl and do not trust his ultrasound reading skills :) We better stick with unisex.
Anyways, baby is beautiful! It was everything I'd hoped it would be!!! I think it was much more moving than Ryan had expected. He says he just wanted to yell out (in a primate voice) I MADE THAT!!!
