I met with the hematologist who was excited to see how well the pregnancy was going. He was happy I had made it through so far with out needing any blood thinning medications. He did however decide that I do need to go on the blood thinner injections for 4-6 weeks after delivery (it the highest risk time to develop a blood clot). I wasn't happy but when he said I would be running a risk of ending right back in the hospital with a clot and a newborn that had to stay home without me, I didn't argue anymore.
The pitfalls though are: The medication depletes your body of calcium and so does breatfeeding, they usually recommend high levels of calcuim supplements but I can't take them because of the kidney stones, so I increase my risk a little of breaking a bone or osteoporosis. Also the medication, although considered entirely safe by the FDA for breatfeeding, does go into the breatmilk in trace amounts, so lets just hope the FDA is right for once. Oh yeah and then there are the unsighly bruises from the needles that make it look like you are getting beat by someone (thank goodness its not summer and I won't be in a bathing suit, otherwise Matty would be catching a bunch of dirty looks).
Yes, I know it's all worth it!!

10/30/07 - 34 Week Check-up with Tina
Not much to report...
Baby sounded great and is measuring on target as always.
She said that my body was handling the end of pregnancy well, that my blood pressure was fantastic, I had no swelling, and my skin was handling the growing tummy very well.

10/25/07 - Ugh... More Kidney Stones I had an ultrasound done on my kidneys and there is approx 4-6 more kidney stones in there. They said I has 2-3 in my right kidney, 1 in the tube on the way out on the right side and 1-2 in the left kidney. They aren't sure why I have them but they said it is unusal to have that many of them. I was told to drink 12-16 glasses of water a day and that nothing else could be done until after she is born. I am not too sure I agree with this advise and I am looking into finding out more.

10/17/07 - Our First "Scare"
I was having what felt like pain from a bladder infection, but then turned into the all too family back pain from a kidney stone. As the pain increased so did the contractions. Once the contractions started happening almost one on top of another I called Dina who told me to call Alison the midwife on the emergency line asap. Alison told me to get to labor and delivery as soon as we could. The car ride was nerve recking. Alison met us on the unit where they hooked me up to the monitors. I was having contractions every two minutes, but the baby looked great. She checked my cervix and is wasn't dialating, thank goodness! She preformed a fetal fibronectin test to help determine if I was going to go into preterm labor and it came back negative, thank goodness again. So after a few hours, she decided that the contaction were just from my body trying to get teh kidney stone out and we got to go home.
I went to see the urologist the next day (I had already passed one stone) and he told me it was just something that happens in pregnancy and that there was really nothing I could do except stay hydrated and hope I don't get more (I did). I have an appointment next week for a renal ultrasound to see how many more are in there and have been told to "take it easy" to keep the contractions at bay.
