| 2006-12-15 (baby has arrived) |
Friday - 15 December 2006 My boy is an absolute Angel! So far he only ever cries when he's hungry or needs a clean nappy. I am amazed by how easily we have settled into being a family of 4 and I'm even more amazed at how much I love him. I really must've grown another heart! I'm so happy and so much more relaxed than what I was being a first time Mommy. My son loves suckling and one of the first things he did after being born was to stick his hands in his mouth and started sucking on them
So here's the story:
After my internal exam from Sue my midwife on the 12th I resigned myself to the fact that it will probably be another 10 days or so before our son's arrival. Little did I know that Sue told a little white lie because she knew that me being in this constant state of waiting was actually slowing things down...I had contraction like pains on the 12th but Sue said that I'll be experiencing some discomfort after the internal so I put it down to that and carried on as per usual.
I woke up on the 13th at around 6'ish went to the loo and noticed a very thick mucousy discharge streaked with blood. I put it down to the internal and went back to bed. Not long after I got back into bed I noticed that fluid was leaking and I got up and went to the loo again thinking I probably didn't empty my bladder properly More discharge on the tissue....I went back to bed and noticed some pretty strong pains starting - these definately weren't Braxton Hicks. I got up looked at my watch it was 06:44. I ran a bath and got in, the contractions didn't go away. At this stage I still haven't allowed myself to get excited as I've had so many false alarms already but by the time dh got up which was 07:30 there was no denying that I was in labour!!
He came to look for me and found me in the bath and I said to him Babe - I don't think you'll be going to work today We started timing the contractions and they were 4-5 minutes apart lasting about 20 seconds each. I called Sue and asked her to please come over - It's Showtime! We had people in and out of the house my best friend Dorinda came over and our neighbour was here to keep an eye on Lila. Sue bought a friend along as well she is a trained paramedic and I've met her before so I didn't mind. All the visitors kept my mind occupied.
When the pains got really bad and we decided that Lila was OK everyone left and was just us Sue and Thelma. Lila was absolutedly amazing through all of this - she was my little STAR and I'm so proud of her!! She didn't get freaked out once and held my head and stroked my hair through contractions with DH rubbing my back. I couldn't have done it without the two of them. I am also extremely proud of myself and how I handled the whole labour I made no noise and with every contraction visualised my body opening up. About 40 mins after Sue arrived she did an internal to see how far along things are - I was 6 cm's dilated but my waters hadn't broken yet and it was preventing his head from decending. So Sue broke my waters and the contractions moved from my back to the the front and got a whole lot more intense. At 10:10 I said to Sue I have to push!! So I got into the birthing bath and had one more contraction. When I got in the bath Lila said that she wanted to join me so she also took off all her clothes and got into the bath with me She had the best position and saw her brother being born. After the contraction I started pushing and at 10:20 my son was born!
It was truly an amazing experience and I was extremely calm and relaxed throughout the whole thing! We sat in the bath for ages with the placenta and cord still in tact and eventually dh cut the cord, the placenta was delivered and I got out the bath. His Apgar was 9/10 and 10/10, weight 3.5kg's, length 51 cm's, head circumference 36 cm's. My son was wrapped in a towel, I went to bed and he was given to me for some skin to skin contact. He took a while to get the hang of latching onto my breast and to start feeding but as soon as he did he fed for aaages
Later the afternoon I had two blackouts due to low blood pressure and was ordered to GO TO BED AND REST! Which I did and I'm fine now We had our checkup today from Sue and all is perfect with me and Christian. Lila adores her brother and is so amazing with him! |

Tuesday - 12 December 2006 Another false alarm last night! Had regular contractions first coming at 20 mins apart then 15 then 10 which promptly fizzled out during the course of the night! Woke up this morning feeling very sore and frustrated but have that period pain feeling so hopefully it's a sign! My midwife can only see me after 12 today I want her to do an internal to see if there's anything happening down there...
I really want him to come now! |

Sunday - 10 December 2006 I woke up last night at 02:44 with a HUGE braxton hicks contraction. Got up and went to the loo and tried to go back to sleep. I drifted in and out of sleep for the rest of the night and had mild period like pains. I don't want to get too excited as I've already had a couple of false labour incidents so we'll wait and see....I'm still having the cramping.
We still have 5 days to go to actual D Day.
I've been reading some home birth stories for inspiration I'm a lot calmer now so maybe it will all help towards speeding the process along. I know I can do this I've done it before and yes sure it's going to be painfull but because I've done it before I can use my previous experience to my benefit! I'm so excited to meet my little guy and believe it or not I'm getting excited about going through labour again as well. It's such a magical experience really!
But for now we are still waiting....

Update 2:
AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH
The period pains fizzled out and bloody nothing is happening. I really just want to deliver this baby now. I know I shouldn't be wishing it away but at this stage I'm just so uncomfortable and the constant false alarms are driving me insane!!!!!!!

Friday - 8 December 2006 I can't believe we are here already! Time has surely flown by - My Pregnancy is almost over. The waiting is not nice but I suppose I should enjoy my last couple of days being a Mom of one....He has been moving shame more like squirming actually quite a bit tonight and I can feel him moving deep inside my pelvis. It's actually quite painfull! I swear sometimes it feels like he's just going to drop right out!
I can't wait to meet my son - I've waiting so long for him. I really hope that he comes before Lila's school closes on the 13th so that I can at least spend a couple of days just the two of us...
