The joys of doctor's offices
We had an early morning appt (8am). Which is fine, except I am so tired I find it increasingly difficult to drag my sorry carcass out of bed. It was actually an eye check for my husband and a contact check for me. Just so happens I took my son last week and they dialated his pupils, so its not his favorite place (please note that they were really great, and he was a grump face before they dialated his eyes).
We had no choice but to tote the little bugger along, and I found myself wondering anew, how is this going to work when we have a pair? Will Davy's listening skills magically blossom over the next 3 + months? I have a friend with two children and they seem pretty great, but its different when they are yours, especially when your son's  sneaker keeps falling off (his grungy back up sneakers with worn velcro because we can't find his nice strife rite sneaks), he is screaming like someone is hurting him, and trying to manhandle what is probably expensive and delicate equipment.
Davy does not like doctor's offices of any kind, he even tends to freak when I have to tote him to my OB (which happens rarely), even though they are not at all concerned with poking or prodding him. He used to love his own doctor's office, but lately he has become quite a but (perhaps because I only take him when he is sick and already in a foul mood). Anyway he is starting to get a reputation as an unruly spoiled shrieker. . .what to do, what to do. . .

SImple Things
I had been so busy finishing up my schoolwork that my house had gotten quite disgusting. In my made dash to complete my end of semester projects dishes and laundry piled up, I ate tons of fast food, and was a little lax on the showering. Finally I got done, and celebrate with a nice hot shower. I spent Saturday enjoying the smell of clean laundry, clean kitchen counters and naps in half hour increments while my son watched Thomas the Tank Engine (a mind numbing, and as far as I can educationally lacking show about trains).
I am just loving that I do not have to feel guilty about watching TV, reading, or thinking about the baby nursery anymore. In the back of my mind the fact that I had school stuff to do was always lurking, like a forgotten sippy full of old milk. Summer break is calling my name, Full of possibilities for swimming, playing, quilt making, naps. . .

April 29
I am exhausted, wondering where the second trimester energy and good feelings are.  I think my toddler stole them. He is bright and sparkly and full of energy. I have no idea what Davy thinks of the baby or if he really understands, but he does point to my belly and say baby, and he will say 'brother' and 'name Calvin' (which sounds more like Kevin in toddlerese). It is sweet and endearing. The baby is beginning to move more forcefully and I am looking forward to hearing the heartbeat at my OB visit today.
We are nowhere near ready for the baby, still need to paint and put down carpet, and I won't stop feeling anxious til its done. I am nervous about putting Davy upstairs, because I am afraid he will fall down the stairs some morning. he is getting very good at maneuvering, but it is still Scary. Also scary is the complete lack of interest my son has in potty training.
I alternate between loving my husband to distraction and being angry and resentful (of his smell, the sounds he makes when he eats, the money he is spending on weddings and bachelor parties this summer when we are BROKE, his insistence on attending his cousin's wedding halfway across the country when I am going to 36 weeks and stuck home without his help and our 2 yo and he doesn't even really seem to like the cousin). I do love him very much and he is a wonderful husband father and man BUT he does not seem to understand how much things cost. We shall see how things pan out. We always seem to do ok all things considered.
I am also gaining weight like its going out of style. That is one issue that will just have to wait til September, especially considering I have my classes to finish this semester.
