The Story ( or as I like to call it- "Three Big Surprises"): Since I had been walking around Dialated at 3 cms, and 100% effaced for two days, my water decided to break at 10:10 pm Wednesday night. Actually who knows how dialated I was at that point, because once my water broke, contractions were almost too intense for me to bear one hour later.
I was lying in bed when it happened. Jay had come in to check on me, since I had been wandering around the house aimlessly, looking like I was going to break something. He said the look on my face was priceless when my water broke. I could only think "How could THAT much fluid come from inside a little uterus?" It literally soaked my entire half of the bed, and I started crying a little bit in shock, or embarrasement, I don't know which. Jay thought it was hilarious either way.
Right away I started having contractions that were WAY stronger than the ones I'd had over the weekend. I got in the shower to clean myself off, and started Jay on timing the suckers as they came. He was so excited, he literally was jumping around like a leprechaun saying "here we go!"
I called the midwife about an hour later, when my last 10 contractions were coming in at about 5 minutes apart and 1.5 minutes long. The book said I could have the baby any time 6-24 hours from now, but I looked at Jay and said "I think we should go."
Since the hospital (yes, the old one) is about 45 minutes away, the drive was NOT fun to say the least. My contractions kept getting stronger, to the point where I was groaning and had a death grip on Jay's hand. He drove like a bat outa hell with the flood lights on the entire way, scaring away every animal in sight, and probably a couple drivers too.
By the time we got into Durango, I was screaming obscenities and Jay was blowing stop lights and speeding past cop cars with glee, shouting "they can't pull me over! HAHA!"
I was so uncomfortable sitting in the truck, but I seriously dreaded the walk to the labor and delivery ward. Luckily, I had visited the very room earlier that day and all the nurses looked at me like, "wow already?"
They put me in a large room, since they thought I would be having a waterbirth with an inflatable tub, but little did I know....
Surprise # 1 was the fact I was in labor at 37 weeks and 4 days, but Surprise # 2 was when the nurse checked my cervix and saw two little feet in the birth canal instead of a head. The nurses shouted at each other that I was completely dialated and ready to push, but that I was going to need an emergency C-Section due to the breech position.
Before I could say anything, I was wheeled down to surgery. I was in so much pain and had such an urge to push by that time, but they told me not to, so I tried. The didn't even have time for a spinal block, so i had to have anesthesia. All I remember is hearing her cry, and waking up a few seconds laterm to them telling me- Surprise # 3 "You have a beautiful baby girl".
After that I was totally discombobulated. No one had gotten anything right! Not even the ultrasound technician! The midwives certainly didn't prove their knowledge, telling me the baby was head down. now I have a nursery full of "nathan" embroidered boy clothes and a perfect little girl to go in them. She is so amazingly gorgeous, I can't even describe it without sounding like a lifetime movie. I love her so much, it honestly hurts. I am in such awe that I have created another living being and she's going to be here the rest of my life!
So now I sign out of my blog from a place of sleep deprivation and unbridled love. I will be back, but for some reason, this blog has lost its importance. I wonder why? Cheers all! |
