Baby Shower!!!!

The baby shower yesterday was so much fun!

First was lunch, which was spaghetti, breadsticks, pasta salad, and a veggie tray.  It was all very yummy!!!

Then the games!  The first game - which lasted the entire shower - was that no one could say the word "baby."  Everyone was given a baby clothespin and if you caught someone saying "baby," you got to take their clothespin away.  Whoever had the most clothespins at the end of the shower won.  Rylea Bennett, my best friend's daughter, won that game since she had 6 clothespins.

The second game was a baby word scramble.  My nephew's wife Rae Jeanna won that.

The third game was just a blast!  Everyone had to guess how big my tummy was with a piece of streamer.  Some were flattering and were short with their piece of streamer, others not so much with very long pieces of streamer!  However, my niece Mandy won with her piece of streamer being the perfect length.

The last game was a story.  The wrapped prize started out with me and each time Stacie said "right" or "left" in the story, the prize was passed in that direction.  Whoever ended up with the prize at the end of the game won, which was my Aunt Sylvia.

Then everyone had very yummy cake (which was made by the same woman who made our wedding cakes and makes all of our birthday cakes), mints (made by "Grandma" Burg - Stacie's Grandma, but I call her Grandma too), and nuts.

After that was present time!  Emerald got so many beautiful clothes, bibs, picture frames, books, toys, a play pen, a high chair, a bassinet, a piggy bank, handmade afghans, a handmade quilt, and lots of other stuff.  She even got Iowa Hawkeye booties!!!

The shower was just a ton of fun!  A big thanks to Stacie & Cindy for putting together a great shower and all of the hard work into it.  Love you guys!!

Grandpa Abbott came on Wednesday night and gave Emerald her crib.  Daddy started putting it together Friday night and finished it yesterday.  We still need the mattress, but the crib is just beautiful.

34 Week Appointment

On June 20th, I first went to see Dr. Krueger to have an adjustment after my accident.  I had a neck, shoulder, & hip adjustment.

Then Daddy & I went to see Dr. Lyons for my 34 week appointment.  Emerald's heartbeat was at 140, which is perfect.  My blood pressure is still great.  I had gained just over 2 pounds from my last appointment.

All in all - everything is going perfectly and there's no problems or issues from the accident.  My next appointment is July 7th with Dr. McCarron.

Accident

I want to preface this with I’m fine and Emerald’s fine.

On 1st Ave in Cedar Rapids, a guy rear ended me.  He called the cops and was cited for failure to stop or failure to maintain control or whatever.  I was taken by ambulance to St. Luke’s.  I was checked out in the ER, then moved over to the birthing center so they could get me on fetal monitors.  They determined that I was having contractions that were a couple minutes apart – which I couldn’t feel at all.  So they gave me a shot of medication to stop the contractions – which worked practically immediately, thank God.  I have some blood work done to make sure that my placenta hadn’t torn and was bleeding internally – which came back that it hadn’t torn and was fine.  Then I had an ultrasound so they could look at her measurements and make sure she still looks ok.

I swear, I have the most beautiful, sassy little girl in the world (which I was told I wouldn’t be a good mom if I didn’t think that, but hey – I can be prejudiced!).  We got to see some really good pictures of her face and wouldn’t you know – she stuck her tongue out at us!  She’s so ornery (just like her dad!).  Based on her measurements, she’s 4 lbs 11 oz right now and just looks perfect.

After 5 hours of observation, they sent me home.  My car is still sitting at St. Luke’s parking lot – Dan’s waiting to hear back from the guy’s insurance adjustor – My back bumper is toast and the trunk is squashed up a bit, so it’ll definitely take some work to fix.  The guy was very concerned about me, he came up to the hospital to make sure I was ok (which they wouldn’t tell him anything so he left his card).  Dan called him later to let him know how I was doing.  The guy even offered to lend us his “extra” minivan so I could get around, which Dan thanked him but told him that wasn’t necessary.

Overall, we're both fine, but I'm taking it easy for awhile to make sure everything continues to be fine.

Friday's Appointment

I confirmed this morning that my appointment for Friday with the OB is still scheduled.  My OB actually has 2 offices in Cedar Rapids - one in the Mercy Medical Center which was affected by the flood and the other by St. Luke's, which was not affected.  All of the doctors from the Mercy location have moved to the St. Luke's location.  All appointments are scheduled as normal and everyone will be seen.  I'm so thankful!
