Hello and congrats on your new arrival. I am about 3 weeks in to my first adventures with a baby and i feel your exhaustion. Luckily my mom was here the first two weeks which made it easier for me. However, I did keep him all night and only passed him off after his first morning feeding then caught another couple of hours of sleep. Toby is pretty good at entertaining himself, but when he is bored, I merely put some of his more colorful toys around him, turn on some tunes and let him be. He gets squirmy and makes noise, but I just let him do his thing and only attend to him if he starts crying.
If I am not too tired and can manage, I just talk to him. He really loves being talked too. Often times in the night, because my hubby works some pretty long hours during the day I will bring him into the living room, turn on the tv, and just hang out with him as if its day time. Eventually we both end up falling asleep.
I hope some of this helps. I am still learning too so I know how you are feeling. There are still some days where I can barely seem to function I am so tired. On those days as soon as Toby goes to sleep, I do too. Sometimes you just have to live without a shower, and let the rest of your household make their own supper!!
Good luck, and once again congrats.
