Hello and congrats on your new arrival.  I am about 3 weeks in to my first adventures with a baby and i feel your exhaustion.  Luckily my mom was here the first two weeks which made it easier for me.  However, I did keep him all night and only passed him off after his first morning feeding then caught another couple of hours of sleep.  Toby is pretty good at entertaining himself, but when he is bored, I merely put some of his more colorful toys around him, turn on some tunes and let him be.  He gets squirmy and makes noise, but I just let him do his thing and only attend to him if he starts crying.

If I am not too tired and can manage, I just talk to him.  He really loves being talked too.  Often times in the night, because my hubby works some pretty long hours during the day I will bring him into the living room, turn on the tv, and just hang out with him as if its day time.  Eventually we both end up falling asleep.

I hope some of this helps.  I am still learning too so I know how you are feeling.  There are still some days where I can barely seem to function I am so tired.  On those days as soon as Toby goes to sleep, I do too.  Sometimes you just have to live without a shower, and let the rest of your household make their own supper!!

Good luck, and once again congrats.

When Eliana was a little, I'd strap her in her bouncy chair and show her books or soft toys she had...I'd take her hand and let her feel different textures.  I'd also get close to her face with my face and talk to her, she'd just examine my face with awe.  She also enjoyed just hearing my voice and being held.  If he's real squirmy when you are holding him try changing positions.  Eliana didn't like being on her tummy at first, this included being on your shoulder and chest. Is any one helping you out during the day?  So you can nap when he naps?  My Mom came over in the afternoons for the first couple of weeks so I could sleep while she slept.  It seemed like her sleeping intervals where longer during the day than at night.  She'd bring her to me just to feed her, then take her out of my room to burp or change her so I was able to get some shut eye.  That made the sleepless nights a little easier.  If you don't have anyone please let me know I would be happy to help you out and give you some well deserved sleep.

Let me know, take care and lots of love to you all.....
