Come on in and share in my miracle!
My name is Sonia and Arron is my sweet, beautiful boyfriend. Our journey to have a baby began more than 2 years ago with out first visit to our IVF clinic. We thought we would need assistance because Arron is paraplegic. However, we found out that our bigger problem was my diagnosis of decreased ovarian reserve.
On our first ART attempt, I responded sub-optimally. The clinic talked me into buying a 3-cycle 'fertility preservation' package. They convinced me it would be better to freeze the 4 mature eggs I had produced, rather than pay for expensive sperm aspiration at that point. The plan was to freeze 3 cycles and then fertilize them all at once, at some point down the road.
On our second attempt, I responded even worse and we decided to fertilize our total 8 eggs from both cycles, rather than lose more eggs to the freezing process itself. This resulted in only 1 cleaved embryo, which did implant but lead to a blighted ovum pregnancy, which I miscarried at 8 weeks.
Our 3rd attempt has been successful* and I am finally pregnant with one apparently healthy baby!
I guess you could say we won the IVF lottey.
A bit about us
Arron:
Sonia:
-
Is doing a 2nd degree in Education
-
Loves kids (maybe IS a kid)
-
Loves to play the piano
-
Has a silly name for everyone and everything
* On the 3rd cycle, I produced a total of only 4 eggs. Three were mature, 2 fertilized, and one was of good quality. The statistical odds were seriously against us, but thank God someone has to be in that 5% minority that succeeds under these conditions. |
