Baby has arrived!

2007-10-10  (baby has arrived)
Baby Connor has arrived!!
I totally forgot to say here that Connor Anthony entered the world last September 28, 2007 @ 7:51 PM after almost 18 hours of labor and 3 hours of pushing.  I ended up with a c-section but it was all worth it.  I just wanted to make sure that he was okay.  We had to struggle with some jaundice issues but thankfully it's slowly getting resolved.  Even though we're going through some sleepless nights, we still enjoy watching our little son grow.  He already looks different now.  I'll put up more info when I have time.

38 week check-up
Today was probably THE most uncomfortable pelvic exam ever.  Well good things first.  My urine checked out okay, my blood pressure was excellent but I gained 4 lbs. in the past 2 weeks.  (Yipes!)  I'm just hoping it's the baby gaining weight.  Overall, I still gained about 24 lbs. which isn't bad but I need to watch what I eat to make sure I don't gain *too* much weight.  Anyway, the pelvic exam---she tried to scrape my membranes.  Can we say youch?  Man, it hurt like heck!  I'm still about 1.5 cm dilated and 50% effaced.  I asked her about her induction policy and she said that they don't do anything until about 41 weeks if your cervix is ripe but they don't go past 42 weeks.  Man, I hope he comes soon!   Also, she told me that this baby is probably around 7 lbs. now.  (oh man)  It's possible he'll be 8 lbs+ if he doesn't come out soon.  Waaah!!  For some reason, I didn't think I'd have a big baby (but one never really knows until they come out).  I was only 5 lbs and something something ounces and my husband was in the 6 lb. range.   At least he won't have low birth weight.  I hope he comes soon enough.

Boy am I glad
That all the pain I'm feeling now didn't really start until my last trimester.  Yesterday, I might've overdone it again with the cleaning and stuff.  My back was killing me last night that I was crying.   I know that whenever I tell people that I have really bad back pain, they think that my labor has started well I wish that was the case but it's not.  There's no crampiness or bloody discharge that goes along with it-- just plain old back pain.  I'm just glad that it eases up when I wake up.  I notice too that when I don't drink as much milk, that's when it hurts.    Also, when I wake up in the morning, it's really hard to make a fist.  I feel as if I have arthritis but I know that it's because of water retention and you're pretty much stationary at night time.  It gets better during the day, when I start moving around.  I'm surprised that I can still play the piano at church.

I'm curious to see what my OB would say on Tuesday's appointment.  I hope that I dilated and effaced some more.  I just started thinking what if he comes late.  I know I'm only 37 weeks but I wanna know her policy when it comes do inducing if she waits a little bit after 40 weeks or if she lets it go on a week.

This Saturday, we're going to a wedding.  I'm actually pretty excited but I know I can't stay that long because my back is probably gonna pay for it.  I'm such a wuss now but I guess it's not my fault.  In a way, I do want my old body back (without aches and stuff) but I'm gonna miss feeling the little guy in my tummy but at least I'll get to see him everyday.

Breastfeeding Class
Last night we attended the breastfeeding class.  Most of the stuff the health educator talked about I've read from books but there were still some things that were helpful and I'm glad that the hubby was able to go with me.  I know that in the first few weeks, I'm gonna need all the help I can get with breastfeeding since I'm new at it but I think it'll be a worthwhile experience.  It's kinda nice to know that you're nourishing your baby with your body.   Now I know that breastfeeding is not for everyone so I'm not one of those people that are nazi about it.  I really think it's up to the mom but honestly, I'd try it at least for the first couple of weeks.  If the bonding thing isn't enough to make you consider it, the price of formula will.  Just my 3 cents.  =)

By the way I've started my maternity leave.   Any day now....
