Baby has arrived!

First baby related purchase
When hubby and I went to the mall yesterday, we saw this at Pottery Barn Kids.  Well I was thinking that it might be too early and someone might give us a diaper bag from the registry, we hesitated but after looking at different diaper bags (the price, the looks, etc) we decided to just get it.  It was only $39.99 after all.  It feels weird buying stuff for the baby even though I'm not even halfway there but it's kinda fun.  I was tempted to buy some newborn beanies at Target cause they were so cute and cheap but I hesitated.  I know I'm past the 1st trimester but I'm still a bit paranoid and until I see that newborn in my arms, I guess my paranoia won't totally go away.

Keep on that healthy track
So even though I know I need to decrease the intensity of my workouts, I still wanted to keep up my physical activity.  One thing I need to pay attention though is my heart rate.  They don't want you to exceed a certain limit (around 140 bpm) to make sure you're giving adequate oxygen to the placenta.  I'm sure I exceed that once in awhile but they say it's okay if you've been fairly active before you got pregnant just as long as you don't end up feeling dizzy or lightheaded.  Well, anyway to alleviate this issue I decided to look for a heart monitor.  I started looking at sports stores naturally but I didn't realize that they cost so much!  The most common ones are those Polar watches but I really didn't want a high-tech watch, I just want something to monitor my heart rate.

So finally, I thought to look at Costco.   Yesterday we went so I can get my contacts.  I almost forgot  about the heart rate monitors but when I saw their jewelry/watch display case, I remembered.  I lucked out and I was able to find a women's Mio watch for 48.99.  Well, I don't think it could get any better than that.  It even tracks your caloric intake and your target heart rate so this will work out perfectly.  I tried measuring my heart rate and it seems pretty accurate and easy to use.  I haven't even heard of this brand but so far the reviews have been great so we'll see.  I'll put it to use later when we go biking.

16 week appointment
Okay, well I officially don't turn 16 weeks until Wednesday but we came today.  Everything looked good.  My protein and sugar are on the spot and my blood pressure is good.  I got my AFP (alphafetoprotein) test done.  Hopefully they'll be negative.  We went in and the doctor did the doppler thing.  Okay before I start, my bladder was pretty full.  She couldn't find the heartbeat and we started to panic.  She said she faintly heard it but I could hear my heartbeat only so I asked if we could do the ultrasound which we did.  I'm glad though so the hubby can see the baby.  We didn't get printouts however but yeah, the baby's there.  It's just that my bladder is so full that the baby was pushed up way high near my belly button.  She was searching down below my pelvis that's why she couldn't hear it.  Oh and get this, she thinks we might be having a  BOY!  We're not 100% for sure yet she pointed out the genitals.  hehehe..  We'll know for sure after the formal ultrasound in May.  Man, I still can't believe there's someone growing inside me.

It all starts here
I'm sure that if you've been pregnant before you know what I'm talking about.  The constant worrying starts right at the moment you find out that you're pregnant.  Even though this pregnancy was planned, I can't help but think if I'm REALLY ready to be a mom.  I know people tell me all the time you're never really ready but you can at least do some preparing.  When I got really sick with a bad cold and cough, I felt guilty about taking the meds. I really was worried that I might be causing some defects to my unborn child but I think I trust the medical providers and the books that I've been reading.

Right now though my main concern is that I'm not showing yet.  i also haven't gained that much weight.  I'm not bragging though okay.  I just don't know if this is good or not.  It's not that I'm dieting either.  I just haven't been eating as much as I used to.   I know I probably should be glad that I didn't gain that much and I know that every woman is different but I guess I just want to make sure that the baby is growing as it should.  Hopefully Monday's appointment will be okay.
