Shopping I dont really have anything exciting to report this week. According to my calendar and my (true) due date, I am 28 weeks and 6 days along, in the beginning of my 8th month.
Harrison has gotten a few new "presents" this week. We ordered plantation shutters for his nursery. And a big fancy "H" to hang on his wall. His sheets also should be here this week (if you ever have a round crib, be prepared to have little choice in bedding). I bought a matching PJ set at Old Navy for the hospital. Its a nursing shirt and pj pants for me and a gown and cap for him. They aren't exactly matching, but its the same colors. Really cute. I also ordered some nursing clothes and a diaper bag. I buy almost everything online so now I get to just wait for it all to get here! We went to Toys 'r' Us because we were bored on Sunday. We have been watching all the seasons of Lost in a row and I was a bit burnt out. We made a few purchases, nothing too exciting. Blankets, band-aids, baby wipes, stuff like that. We were amazed at how cool toys are now.
And then Bama and Bop gave us their shower present early. Its the travel system that we registered for. For those who aren't familiar, a travel system is the stroller and car seat. They snap together. That way I don't have to take Harrison out of his seat. I just pick the whole seat up and snap it into the stroller. Its very cool. It even has a plug-in for your ipod. Adam is happy that I picked out one that is green and orange. He says that he and Harrison will feel more manly in it. If we have a little girl next time, she is going to have a lot of little boy stuff! I have tried to stay gender nuetral, but its not that easy.
My diaper bag, however, is not manly. Its very pretty. Its actually a purse that is so big that it is going to be able to hold all the diaper accessories. Adam asked what he will carry when he has the baby and I told him that was his problem! Ha! I told him he could buy a "diaper dude", but he didn't like the name very much, so I don't think he'll be exploring that idea. So he will have to go on a quest to figure out what he will be carrying. I think it will be awhile before they up and leave me since I am the primary food source! :)
Here's a pic of the stroller.

Getting uncomfortable... My third trimester has officially started and I am also officially uncomfortable. The acid reflux problem continues. I eat very little at night so that I can get more sleep. I still have to spend a few hours sitting up in bed before I can fall asleep. Or I just fall asleep sitting up.
I have been having a lot of the round ligament pain, which is basically just the soreness of the ligaments around my uterus. I usually walk around sideways when I first get up in the mornings. Adam went for a walk with me last night - I have actually been walking to try to only gain one pound a week - and I was walking so slow. I think it was hard for him to walk that slow. And I have the shortness of breath sometimes. And a little back pain. All in all, it could be a lot worse.
I was also looking at the cost of a maid for maybe my last bit of pregnancy and for after we bring Harrison home. I am already to the point where the thought of cleaning this house is completely overwhelming. And I dread even climbing my stairs. But my estimate was like $600/month so that idea isn't quite feasible! And I don't feel comfortable hiring a random person off the internet and also am not into the hiring of illegals as that is 100% against our politics (although I question the legal status of the guys who mow our lawn). So I am back to my goal of just cleaning a few rooms a day. If it weren't for Oscar's white fur everywhere! We bought one of those air purifiers. Maybe that will help.
We went to a newborn care class. It didn't teach us a whole lot but we practiced changing diapers on a doll. Adam had never changed a diaper before. And we learned how to swaddle. We watched some videos from the 80's. Adam was mortified at some of the breast shots that they showed. That was entertaining. We didn't learn how to burp the baby which was one of the things I was hoping to learn. But I assume you figure that one out really fast. We have a breastfeeding class and an Infant CPR class coming up over the next couple of months.
We are trying to sell Adam's car. Since I have the 2 door and Adam has a standard (which I can't drive and don't really want to learn to drive), we kinda need something else. Although I can make do with the baby in the convertible, we are going to try to swap Adam's car out for an SUV. We decided on the Hummer H3 because they are a good mid-size SUV. I wasn't ready for the big one like the Tahoe or the Expedition but I felt like we needed something bigger than the small ones. We go to Home Depot a lot for projects and pull the boat to the lake sometimes so mid-size was perfect for us. Anyway, I didn't think I would like the hummer because you imagine them to be really rugged, but they had some that were so pretty on the inside. And they seem to be extremely safe. Adam's work pays for his car and I think this will be in the range of what they will pay for. We loved the Escalades but those wouldn't quite be in the range of what his work pays for and I very much like the idea of not having another car payment! So anyway, we are back to trying to sell his car. I don't think it will be a problem. We still have 3 months.
Adam and I are just ready to get the little guy out! I will put some belly pics in the photo album. I have been fortunate enough so far (knock on wood) to not get the stretch marks, the black line or "linea negra" , and my belly button is still an innie! I also know that none of this is in my control at this point and I will probably gain another 12+ pounds so I will just enjoy it while it lasts!
2008-02-15 (25 weeks)
Doctor's Appt 2-15 I went to the doctor this morning. She says I am 25 weeks and 1 day (although I still believe myself to be 26 weeks and 1 day, so we will continue to assume that i am right since this is my blog). I gained a whopping 7 pounds this month. A total of 18lbs. Which is what I should have gained at this point. Although I don't need to continue gaining 7 every month. She wants me to gain 1 lb per week. So Adam and I are going to go for more walks. They say the growth slows in the third trimester. Toward the end of the second trimester is a big growth period so I am trying not to let that 7 lbs get to me too much. I would say I am on course to gain between 30 and 35. As long as I am between 25 and 35 I am a happy camper. Although I am gaining inches all over, a lot of that is in my belly so that is good. I keep hearing about all the swelling that comes with the 7th month so I may look big all over soon. That is something to look forward to.
The doctor says that my uterus is very vertical and elongated so my stomach is going to continue to stick out quite a bit. Some women's belly are more spread out to the left and right but mine is all concentrated in the middle. So that is why I appear to be carrying "high". Anyone who tells you that you carry according to the sex your baby is, is wrong. It's all about the shape of your uterus. One bad thing about the shape of my uterus is that my acid reflux is going to continue to get worse. It has already been pretty miserable. Its kept me up many nights but pepcid AC definitely helps. I think the reflux is the only thing bothering me right now. My back isn't hurting too bad and I am not too tired. I am still a little on edge some days but I have many days where I am really calm. I dealt with a real jerk at work the other day and lucky for him, he caught me on a "calm" day. I have had a little of the round ligament pain and leg cramps but I can definitely deal with it at this point.
Another neat thing that i didn't know about pregnancy is that sometimes your growing breast tissue takes a detour and goes to live in your armpit. I have had a lump all along in my right armpit that I suspected was breast tissue and she confirmed that today. She says this is common. She also said that it will get much bigger once my milk comes in. One more reason why I won't be putting on a swimsuit this summer!
I don't know how big Harrison is at this point but around 2 lbs is a good estimate. Maybe a foot long. I have been playing music on Itunes for him when I am on the computer. He seems to like Elton John. He can see and hear now according to what I have read. When we were at the movies the other day, he seemed to get really active in the loud parts.
I guess thats all for this week! Third trimester is just around the corner!
2008-02-08 (24 weeks)
Shower/Car Not much is happening at this point. I am definitely getting bigger. My scales show that I have gained 17 pounds but the doctor always shows less. I will find out next week at my doctors appt. Harrison is still kicking me like crazy and flipping around. I hosted a shower with some friends for Jennifer Goodwill. Here is our pic. We are all pregnant! In this pic, Gyna is 18 weeks, I am 24 weeks, and I believe Jennifer is 31. Adam and I are going to go look at SUVs tomorrow. We need to sell his first before getting something else, but we thought it would be fun to test drive a few and get an idea of what we like. It will be nice to have something bigger for our trips to home depot and a car big enough to pull the boat! Although we probably won't be going much this summer :)
