They're Here I was still having Braxton Hicks contractions on Thursday and they started getting harder. By Friday evening I couldn't take it anymore. I called the hospital and was told to stay put as there was no room. However I told them quite smartly that I was coming in regardless. It was 9:30pm and the football was just letting out so there were people everywhere all over Gap Road so it took ages to get past to the hospital.
Although I was still being told I was not in labour, I had regular contractions and heaps of pain. By just before 3am I was really in pain so the obstetrician on call decided to do the Caesarean then. As I was getting prepared for theatre my waters broke. So it turned out I was in labour. I felt much better to be informed of this!
It all happened very fast. I was shaved, catheterised and prepared for theatre. Then whicked away upstairs where I went on the table. The spinal block was hard to do as I couldn't move and there was odema around the spine so getting it in was quite hard. But soon I was lying on the table ready. They went and got Mum as the surgeon started. I didn't feel any different and thought the block hadn't kicked in yet but the surgeon said he'd already made the cut! About a minute later, after feeling some tugging, I heard a noise like a goose squawking. It was my son! He was checked and wrapped up, then brought over for me to see. He was gorgeous. They gave him to Mum to hold and I told her his name was Shaun. Then there was another goose squawk. It was my daughter, Casey. She was having some troubles so the paediatrician took her down to the special care nursery. When i got out of recovery they took me straight down to the nursery. Shaun was placed in the bed with me and we were wheeled up to the isolette where Casey was. Mum and I stayed there until about 8am just looking at them and touching Shaun.
I was then taken to a room. By 10:00 I had both of my babies in my bed with me and I was so happy. Casey only needed a little time to recover. They tried to put a drip in her but couldn't. But by the time they gave up, she didn't need it anymore.
Both twins had nasogastric tubes and we were in the Special Care Nursery until monday - 26th March. Now we are home and I couldn't be happier!!!
