I just put my son on meds this summer after fighting it for years. Although there have been improvements in focus and impulsiveness (he actually will stay with me in the store!), he has lost 5 pounds and he is thin to begin with, his stomach is upset, he has trouble falling asleep, and has diarrhea. His DR doesn't have any info on natural substitutes and there are so many products claiming to help..focus, attend, synaptol etc. I hate medicating my son. I swore I would never do it, but it is hard when teachers have presented to me that I am doing a disservice to him. Help please!!!!

Hello Sarahtn, my son too has ADHD, I swore I would never use MEDS but due to him being stood down from school and myself teaching him and home decided to try them. He has been attentive for the duration of some days and terrible on others. Anyway while studying last year we had a nutrionalist that came and spoke to us and she said that fish oil capsules were a good alternative to medications, but it would take at least 3 months for improvements but this is just a thought, or you can ring the DORE Achievement Centres.
