Every time I hear all the problems with meds, I get so afraid. I hate having to have my daughter on anything but something has to help. I would love to be able to talk to others with daughters with ADD that have social interaction problems. She is 9 and just doesn't know how to make or keep friends.

Does Phoenix count and I don't have a daughter but does a son count?? LOL My son is 10 and he was diagnosed with ADD 1 1/2 ago. I am a teacher and have seen some nasty results of medication that was prescribed wrong for a kid. So needless to say I was very reluctant to have my own son on meds. Our doctor that we went to see and diagnosed my son with ADD said something very logical that convinced me to do it. He told us that we won't know if it works unless we try and it isn't perminant so if he or I see something that we don't like, then stop it!!! So my son was prescribed concerta. I will tell you that my son is totally different kid. The kid that refused to do his homework and was a 2 hour struggle with c and d's as grades went to a kid that does his homework without a problem and is on the honor roll in school. He can focus in school so his relationship with his teacher has improved greatly also. As for peer relationships that I think will always be a struggle. kids with ADD tend to have trouble keeping friends their own age. I totally understand your frustration. But I will tell you that we are success story when it comes to meds. My son is a totally different kid on them and not a druggy kid that always seems to be sleepy because he was not prescribed correctly. Let me know what you decide. Just remember it isn't perminant!!! :O)))

Hi AZ crowd. I am new to this forum and as I posted earlier I have a 6 year old son with ADHD and PDD. He was on Adderall about a year ago...he was very different on the meds. It was scary to me. He appeared groggy and he got really dizzy from it. maybe wrong med?? Anyhow I would love to chat with the AZ crowd and learn how your experiences and insight could help me! I am finally at the point where I am tired of pretending it is all OK!! It might be nice to talk to others who understand what we are going through!! email anytime @ [email protected]

i myself had to take ridlin when i was a child. i can possibly tell you a long term reaction you may have from your daughter and some other things i experienced and have looked into. i understand what it is like to have to medicate a child i was a guardian for my cousin and had to dose him every day. can't says he was to excited about that. but if not dosed correctly can have some bad effect on the social life. which maybe the cause of no friends
