My 13 year old son has ADHD and was first diagnosed in Year 1. He has been tried on several medications including Dexamphetamin, Ritalin and Concerta, along with some behavioural management. Things were going well for him until he hit Year 5 and his Teacher was not so understanding. Since then it has been a downward spiral. He is in Year 8 and has changed schools twice this year. Due to him developing tics associated with the medication, his medication has now been changed to Strattera. I am unsure of this medication and have asked his Doctor, however due to the tics - there don't seem to be many options available to me now. He is easily led and still has extremely poor impulse control. There don't seem to be any stop-think-do programs geared to teenagers and unless you are willing to attend endless counselling sessions - there doesn't seem to be anything available to help "keep them on the right track" at this age. If anyone has tried Strattera or has some advice on behavioural modification programs for teenagers in Perth, then I would be most grateful.
