I just wanted to let everyone know the success I have had with this medication. We had tried all the others, Ritalin, Adderall, and no success. My son had no sleep at night, no appetite and was so mad and disgusted on these medications that I felt giving him NO medication was better than the side effects. We went through the summer and decided to see the doctor once again, starting a new school year. He has done so very well on Strattera that I just had to write. It takes longer for the actual results with this med, but definitely worth the wait. This is very, very good news for me as I am the type of mom that was TOTALLY AGAINST MEDS. He seems so much more relaxed and happy, that I would recommend any parent to talk to their doc about this medication.

I'm happy for you guys. My son is 5, well be 6 this month and we have been trying it for a couple of months. He complaints that his bones hurt. Have you had the same side effects, or any side effects.

I THINK STRATTERA IS A WORTHLESS HORRIBLE DRUG

Strattera was accidently created when Prozac was made, infact it was shelved for years because it had no use. This was true until a physician found that it would be a good 24 dose for ADHD patients. I'm not sure about the rest of you but who would trust a drug that sat useless for ages which has only been around for 3-4 years? Ritalin has been around for 50 years, it's tried, tested and true and physicians have actually been able to follow up on it and it's side effects for a considerable amount of time. This sounds like a smarter and safer choice. I would never put my child on a med that I didn't know enough about, even if it meant that it promised a 24 coverage.

MY 17 YEAR OLD SON HAD BEEN ON CONCERTA FOR 2 WEEKS WHEN HE LOST BLOOD SUPPLY TO HIS TOES (THANK GOODNESS IT WASNT HIS HEART). OF COURSE WE DISCONTINUED IT. SO....NO MORE STIMULANTS FOR HIM! WE WILL TRY STRATTERA, BUT HE IS SO AFRAID IT WONT WORK SINCE HE ALREADY FELT BETTER ON THE CONCERTA. WILL THE STRATTRA REALLY WORK? IF IT DOESNT, WE DONT HAVE ANY OTHER OPTIONS. WE NEED SOME REASSURING.

my daughter was on strattera, i found that it did work at first, helped her concentrate etc. But as time went on i found she was getting headaches and becoming quite depressed. mood swings started again they were full on, plus she had cluster head aches, There are different warnings about this med.
i found as well that her appetite went, she looked pale all the time, ive taken her off it now but if it works for your child i wish you all the best ,

my son took strattera for a year and a half and it did absolutely nothing for him. When the doctor took him off of it he was an emotional wreck.

Hello my son has been on strattera for 10 1/2 weeks I see no difference..I am beginning to think it is not what he needs, I hear so many people say "what a lifesaver strattera is" I dont see it, he lost 11 pounds, has trouble falling asleep, & still has same bad behavior as always. I am glad it is working for you. I guess it is not for everyone, his school work has improved but overall I think is not for him...Good to know your son is doing better & I am sure your happier too...Best of luck

My son is 11 and been on strattra 2 years and it helps him alot. he doesnt have the mood swings anymore. He also takes Ritilan. Strattra helps with the emotions and ritilan with the hyperactivity. the combination has worked well.

Thanks for sharing. My son has been on Strattera for 2 years. He has been doing much better, also. I have to say it helps about 80% He still has some dificulties. His emotional contol -never was good- is better but not what we'd expect for a 12 year old. The stimulants were a nightmare much worse than the ADHD.
After 2 solid years on this medication we decided to take a break this summer because on lack of weight gain. He gained 1 lb in the last year. Our doctor did not recommend doing this and I am nervous about how the break will affect our son.
We will be starting nurofeedback next week in hopes that it will help with emotional control. I wonder if anyone else has had success with nurofeedback?

Strattera is a non-stimulant for those of you who do not know that. My son has been taking it for 2 weeks. Starting out at 10mg and is slowly moving up to 40mg. No side effects, no moodswings, no nothing. I have seen improvement.. My other son is now started on it, but slowly. This will keep you from getting sick, stomach aches, etc. If you do the full dose right away you will have side effects..

I have just taken my 7 year old off Strattera. He was on it for just over 2 months and he became extremely aggressive and emotional. I've never seen anything like the rages we have had from him. Screaming and shouting when he didn't get his own way. He's been in more trouble at school, it's been horrendous. He was on Ritalin before that which made him very emotional and irritable. For the moment we are leaving the drugs alone.

I've been against meds for the past two years since my son was diagnosed twice with adhd. meds are the last resort for me. my next thing to try and i think other people should try is requesting thorough lab work from their childs physican. go to dr. blocks web site and read about what she has to say about adhd. just google it under dr. block, first choice on the screen.

My son has been on meds for ADHD since he was 5. He started with Adderall, then went to Dexadrine. Both worked well and helped him with school, but he began developing tics, so 5 years ago his pediatrician switched him to the non stimulant, Strattera. It's been great, as it treats his ADHD but doesn't cause the tics and also doesn't result in such a drastic loss of appetite. He's 12 now, plays 2 sports, won the spelling bee for the entire school and has been getting great grades.

My daughter has been on different ADHD meds since she was 5. Metadate CD, Focalin, Ritalin, Vyvanse. They all seem to help a little bit, except when we up the strength she develops motion tics and starts picking at her body, lips, hair. So we are going to try Strattera now. She's 9 and a very smart girl, she just can't get it together at school. The Vyvanse made her manic, after 5 days we had to stop giving it to her. She is also on Clonidine at night to help her sleep. I've had enough with the meds, but unfortunately she needs something. Wish us luck with the Strattera.

All kids react different to medications. It's hard to find just the right one, and then, there are still side effects. My son is 15 and was on adderall. he hated this drug, he said it made him feel thick in the head. we tried strattera, and he likes it, he is doing much better, can sleep at night and has a good appetite. the negative side effect for him is tiredness. he sleeps and sleeps, even falling asleep at school a lot for the first month or so, but now that he has adjusted it has been a really great change for him. good luck to everyone

after years of pushing for my son to be tested for adhd finally 4 weeks ago at 14 yrs old he was actually diagnosed with adhd suspected aspergers and 3 other problems which run along side the adhd. He started strattera the same day and strangly enough although i know it takes up to 6 weeks to work properly we saw a dramatic change in him in the 1st week almost unreal he was actually being nice to myself his dad and his younger brother, he started sleeping he was unbelievably quiet something that i havent experienced for years, but the second and third week as his med has been increased it seems as though he is going backwards and has become emotional aggressive wants to hit everyone, has said on more than one occasion that he wants to kill himself and just seems to be as he was before he started the medication, i have been told that the side effects will go and i should carry on with them, im hoping im doing the right thing carrying on with the strattera has anyone else experienced this? if so please tell me how it worked out for you.

My son is 10, and we've tried everything from herbs to diet to stimulants. Concerta - Ritalin - Adderall - Focalin ... all terrible side effects - ticks, emotional out breaks.
Now he is on Strattera and is doing great. As far as the ADHD. The only side effect i think is from the drug is a fainting spell. Although the doc doesn't agree my self diagnosis on google does. But I am afraid to try anything new...might just give up on the drugs. Has anyone ever heard of fainting spells?
Lynn...my heart goes out to you. It is a confusing long road.

Thanks everyone for letting me know about the Strattera. My daughter will be on it starting 1/21/08 and after reading all your letters I feel much more confident in giving it her.
