My 9 yr. old is awake every night until at least 11:00. My advice is let him read in his room with a lamp on. don't stay in the room with him, you need a break, take it! and if he gets up, let him play with the toys in his room until he gets tired. You have to go to bed when you need to ! Also make him run laps at a track or play a sport or anything to tire him out . It will halp him to be tired later.

HI there! My son will not go to sleep unless I tuck him in, rub his head etc..... I have come to the conclusion that I brak his concerta in 1/2 & give it to him in the a.m. before school & then around 5 pm or so. He can actually fall asleep now that he is not so hyper!
Good luck :-)

My son is also 10.. he takes 36mg of Concerta, soon to be 54. I was also having a very hard time getting him to bed at night until the Dr put him on 12.5mg of Seroquel at night. He takes it at 730 and by 8-830, he is sound asleep and sleeps all night long. I've found that this also helps him at school during the day because he has gotten plenty of deep sleep.

Our kids are the same way. They now take clonidine at night so they can sleep.

I also have a 10 year old son with ADHD that has sleeping problems. He is on 54 mg which he is given at 6:30 a.m. If he has a night time activity (karate, lessons, etc.) we give him 10 mg of ritilin - on our doctor's order. Our pediatrician suggested Melatonin - a natural sleep aid. He said to give our son 1 mg. at bed time. I've found the 1 mg. tablets at Walgreens only - every other place carries 3 mg. We have even cut a 3 mg in half if we can't find the 1 mg. at the store. It has really helped. My son now asks for his Melatonin because he knows it will help him. We also keep the light on for him. We've tried soothing music, a sound machine with water falling sounds or static sounds, we tried a lava lamp (we were really desperate with this one!!), and sitting in the room for 15 minutes. It took quite a while, but he has been successful. My husband still sits in there with him sometimes, but not every night. Ask your pediatrician about Melatonin - we've been very pleased.

Is your son on any medication? We give our son his last dose of Dexedrine by 4 p.m. each day. You also might try Melatonin about one hour before he goes to bed. You can get orange chewable tablets at Vitamin Cottage. We give him 1 to 1/2 tabs per night - it has worked well.

Melatonin is a great supplement for sleep~ it's harmless and it just lets the mind calm down and the body relax. It's also cheap! I take 6 of the 5 mcg pills to help sleep....you just have to find the right dose that will help him get to sleep....some kids need more than others. Just like ADD it's very individualistic.

swids, becareful of breaking concerta in half you may be desroying the release systim built in the med and may be preventing it from doing its intended job. just a freindly be careful as this was told to me.
