emma what I have read is sometimes once the child reaches puberty they become more Bipolar. so the meds go to mood aultners instead of stimulants... talk to your doctor about it before he gets to influenced by boys in upper grades.

Have you thought about giving him vitamins, rather than meds? I have some really great products that could help your son. These same vitamins have helped my son a great deal. Let me know if interested. RS

Spriggs,
I would be interested in finding out what type of vitamins you are giving your son. I have been trying to find vitamins and minerals and herbs too that could help my son who has adhd and odd. I would rather go the natural route than using all the medicines.

sounds just like my son! its really hard. I had my son retested and he is O.D.D.
1. Often loses temper
2. often argues with adults
3. often actively defies or refuses to comply with adults' requests or rules
4. often deliberately annoys people
5. often blames others for his or her mistakes or misbehavior
6. is often touchy or easily annoyed by others
7. is often angry and resentful
8. is often spiteful and vindictive
The disturbance in behavior causes clinically significant impairment in social, academic, or occupational functioning. I'm still learning about all is but, i wanted to share because i was told my son was A.D.H.D. and the meds made him crazy! so we found a new computer test. T.O.V.A test and he scored normal level and was not A.D.H.D. i hope this is helpful to you! Good luck!

I don't have the answers that you need but I can tell you that you're not alone. Keep trying before he gets too old, (mine is 19) I wish I would have stayed on him more. I wish I would have called him out on everything he did instead of being too tired to fight.

That sounds exactly like my son. My son is also on Concerta.. May I ask how many milligrams he is taking? My son is taking 36 but moving up to 54. Also, the amount of milligrams needed also has to do with how much the child weighs and if he hasn't seen his Dr in a year, I'm sure he's outgrown his dose. If your Dr can't get you in for a whole year, I think it's time to find a new Dr. My Dr sees my son every two weeks when we are trying a new med or dose and every 3 months for a med check.

I am new here but not to AD/HD or ODD. Emma - your son seems similar to mine. My son is 11 now and diagnosed with AD/HD at 8 (but our issues started at around age 4). He is on 54 mg of Concerta and 4 mg of Intuniv. The medication helped him in school behaviorally and for a while academically -- now he is in 5th grade and academically it is harder for him. We have been to 2 different therapists with some improvement (structure, consistency, and rewards work but some days I am just too tired to deal with it all). Has anyone heard of "Parent Management Training"? Something I heard could help. Things are so out of control with him some days -- it is really affecting everyone in the household. Sorry for the long reply but I am happy to have found this forum!

I feel sorry that you are so tired about dealing with your son's behavior. But, aside from the medications available for children with ADHD, scientists believed that Music Therapy can actually aid in treatment of ADHD.
There are famous successful people diagnosed with ADHD that who pursued their area of interest and passion like arts, music, science, etc.
You can find out more of what I'm talking about here: http://music.sound-add-adhd-trea
