I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have a 71/2 year old boy who wants to fall asleep at night but physically can't. He is on Ritalin, however he had this problem since he was a baby. Obviously, it is worse because of the medication. I had been giving him melitonin for a while, but it seems to havve lost it's effect. I've tried Benedryl and other cough medicines in desperation some nights, but the red dye makes him nutty. The family is exhausted since he just won't watch T.V. He will actually get into trouble doing something he isn't suppose to do. I am open to any suggestions at this point.

my son had the exact same problem.. We have been trying focalin instead of ritalin and we are still doing the meletonin...so far its been better with the sleeping. If you are near aand can swim,,, get him to swim it utterly exhausts them and they go to sleep.

Have you mentioned this to his doctor?
