I have been diagnosed with placenta previa and have had a couple of bleeds. How much bleeding have you had and what color?

I had some bleeding with my last baby. First time at 24 weeks and 2 other times after that. My Dr. never could tell me why. My son was delivered full term and healthy, so it could be nothing. Sometimes the placenta can tear a little and cause some bleeding. This is what my Dr. thought it could be with me. Also placenta previa like the last post said is also a common cause for bleeding. This is where the placenta lays to close or covers the cervix. Subchrionic hematoma is another cause of bleeding, in later pregnancy it is known as placental abrubion. Other causes are hormonal changes, which obviously we all have when pregnant. Did they tell you to take it easy or just to resume normal activity? Also a small amount of bleeding can be caused by sex, because the cervix is sensitive when pregnant.

To Shannonsmeltzer - sounds like previa. Have you had an ultrasound yet? Usually if you do have placenta previa they will tell you or put it in the report to the doctor. You doctor didn't tell you to take it easy?? I am on total pelvic rest (no sex), have to limit lifting (can lift gallon of milk), cleaning and being on my feet. I would say just take it easy until you find out for sure what caused the bleeding. Hopefully it will never happen again! Good luck to you!
