Ok, so this may be a really stupid question to ask, but since I honestly don't know the answer, I figured I'd ask anyhow and you all wouldn't judge me too harshly for being stupid. :D

I am 36 weeks along and have gotten a horrible cold. Runny nose, sore throat, cough... the whole shebang. I was just wondering what medicines are safe to take to make it go away and what should I stay away from. Thanks for your help.

To be honest i am not sure.I had a bad cold and shingles when i was 11 weeks along,as my son is now 2 it is hard to remmeber what i did!
I think that i bolied the kettle put the water in a bowl with some vicks vapour and sat there with a towl over my head!
But you could give your midwife a ring and ask her!

ok i had a cold about a month ago. i was told to use only tylenol cold and benadryl or how ever you spell it but only the origanl or plain not extra strength benadryl worked best for me and was told not to use the vick vapor rub at all.

In the same situation as you only I am only 17 weeks along. My dr said tyelonl, sudifed for the nose, robitussin for the cough (not the fancy severe cold stuff just the plain) She did tell me that I could take tyelnol cold, but not the multi symptom kind and all the kind that I could find was a multi symptom formula. I am just taking tyelnol for the aches and fever and I take the cough med when I can no longer stand it.

What about medicines that will make you drowsy? Like night time tylenol or any of the others that are meant for night time. With being so far along with the baby and now the cold, I can barely get to sleep at night let alone stay asleep. I'm practically falling over in my chair at work right now. Are the ones that make you drowsy ok? Or do I just need to suck it up and tough it out?

Sudafed is safe to take, Robitussin DM or regular Robitussin is safe to take, Tylenol Sinus is also safe to take. These are the three things that I remember from the list I was given from my doctor.

Hmm... I really really just want something to knock me out so I can sleep for hours at a time. Oh how I miss sleep right now. Hopefully when I call the doc to check, she says that the sleepy stuff is safe...

hay does anyone know if you can use sore throat spray when pregnant. I sure hope so because I didn't even think to ask the dr first.

hmm i'm 40 weeks today. I had a really really bad cold when i was 38 weeks along, the doctors told me I was only able to take Tylenol nothing else. Not even the tylenol cold. for my sore throat they told me I could take Halls, Vicks, Fishermen's Friend, Cepacol, but all the original ones, with the exception they said I could take the Vitamin C ones..err orange flavor i guess. Otherwise it was towel over the head with a bowl of steaming water with vicks in it just like Lynne N. Hope you feel better soon.

just looked it up and it said no data in humans, but no problems found in animal testing. My dr didn't give me that on the list of can takes when I saw her last thurs.

I was told only Tylenol... no sudafed or anything like that. OJ was what I took most! That could have just been for me though. Call your Doc and ask him what he thinks is ok for YOU.

and... it wasn't a stupid question I have done this twice and yet still called my Doc crying "please isnt there something i can take!!!"

My doc said sudafed is ok...and I took it about 4 times so far (mostly in week 6 and 7)...but that safefetus.com website gave it a C and said that there may be risks!

Name: jillw | Date: Oct 17th, 2006 7:20 PM
it gavem me a c for throat drops and spray too, but I think you get a c unless it is proven safe with studies.

I just did some research on the net, and found that for Sudafed, the info is mixed.

Some studies say it's safe to take and that there aren't any risk factors or studies that show that sudafed causes anything.

Other studies show that it's not safe and that it puts you at a higher risk for abnormalities in the fetus.

I'd rather just suffer through my headaches...
