I had a doctors app. tuesday, and have been spotting, so the doctor checked me, and said that I was 2-3 cm dialated, and 80% thinned....this was 2 days ago! I thought something would happen by now, how long can you be stuck this way? Just curious if anyone has expierenced this, and for how long?

Although I've not experienced this before (coming son), I've heard and read that you can stay that way for anywhere from a few hours, days or a week or so. It really just depends. My doctor just tells me that "the baby will come when it's ready." Hang in there and good luck!

I thought I would answer my own post incase someone else had the same question, I ended up being 2-3 cm for a week, and with lots of walking, I made it to my next week visit, and then I was 3-4 cm, but the next morning my beautiful baby boy made his entrance, but "MichelleG" is right, I did read lots of places that you can be dilated like that for months.

I am curently 38 weeks prego, on saturday (3 days ago) I was 3 cm dilated and 70% effaced. I have been back and forth to the hospital for mild contractions for the third time in two weeks, and they keep sending me home saying the contractions are not yet strong enough to dilate my cervix more, yet. I lost my mucus plug 5 days ago and I have been having mild bloody show since yesterday, but no more contractions and no baby... I have a Dr appt tomorrow and I am going to beg for induction at 39 weeks if something doesnt happen before then.

Everyone is so different. I was 50% and at a 2 at 37 weeks, was still there when I went in to be induced at 41 weeks and stayed that way into day 2 of the induction. I really thought that I was going to hurt the nurse each time she told me I was at a 2. My sis was at a 1 and went in shortly after that. Hope you go sooner rather than later. Congrats, not long now!

I am also in the same situation. I went to the doctor yesterday and he said that I am 3 cm dilated, and 60% effaced. I was 2 cm dilated for about a week. I am wondering how long till I actually have this baby. Can anyone help?

Just got back from my 36 week appointment - I'm 2 cm and 70% effaced. He also said he could feel the baby's head and that I was a -2. I don't know if I've lost my plug. What's more important - dialation or effacement? I contract every day but they don't really hurt, just make me uncomfortable. I've also starting getting some pains in my lower abdomen throughout the day. I guess we'll see!

I was in labor for 38 hours and was at a 4 for 15hrs out of the 38hrs. So you can go a long time and have nothing happen

girl i feel your pain. those doctors try there best not help us pregnant mothers out. But i am 3cm and about 60% effaced and have been having contractions that won't go away since last thursday and all they keep saying is that ppl like us could possible stay this way for weeks, days, or hours it depends on how our body responds and when the baby is ready to come it will come. quite frankly i am sick and tired of caring this baby inside of me.

It could possible be a while. I lost my mucus plug at week 32. Had bloody show at week 34. Right now im 38 weeks pregnant and been 90% effaced and 1 cm for nearly 5 weeks. This is my first baby. I had hoped like many that she would have made her debute my now.

I've been at 2 centimeters, 25% effaced, and -2 station for almost 2 weeks now. I have a doctors' appointment tomorrow, but I'm not even sure if they'll check dilation or not. I've been having contractions ever since I got back from the hospital with pre-term contractions..so I'm not sure if they're even putting in effort dilation/effacement wise.
I'm 36 week currently. Don't let the mucous plug fool you. You could keep losing it. I've been losing it since I was 26 weeks along. It regenerates so you'll keep on losing it. Vaginal Pain and Pelvic pressure are telltale signs of dilation or effacement, but other than a manual check...there really is nothing else reliable. If you're looking to speed it up you could try intercourse..or walking..but again..these are not entirely reliable. Baby will come when it's finished cooking. Good luck.
I'm waiting with you.
