I am curious if any of you mom's have ever tried this test. No idea where it originated, but here it is.

Take about 1/2 cup of mom's urine and add 1/2 cup of bleach - any kind of bleach is fine. (do outside or in well ventilated area - makes toxic fumes)

Immediatly the combination of the two will result in a slow bubbly type reaction - such as ginger ale, or a fast, super foamy reaction - such as beer.

Ginger ale is supposed to indicate you are pregnant with a girl, the beer response, a boy.

A friend swears that everyone she knows that tried this between 6 and 12 weeks in their pregnancy had exactly what the test showed, with one exception - someone had fraternal twins (a boy and girl) and got different responses each time she tested.

Just curious if common bleach (chlorine) would react so differently to the different hormones released by the fetus in mom's urine.... very odd.

umm do you know what happens when you combine chlorine with ammonia?

okay well i'm off to bed. but before i go, when you have equal parts of ammonia (which is found in urine) and bleach you make chlorine gas. chlorine gas was used by the nazis during world war II if that gives you any idea how toxic it is to you and an unborn child.

if you have a greater amount of bleach than urine that's sodium hydroxide and nitrogen trichloride. Nitrogen trichloride is a very toxic chemical to humans, and even if you did get close enough to ingest it, it would probably explode in your face first, as it is also a very volatile explosive. There is little necessity in explaining why that is bad.

If you have more ammonia than bleach you have hydrazine (N2H4, a component of rocket fuel). because of how these chemical react there is a great amount of heat generated most of the time resulting in an explosion.

so just wait for your growth u/s at 18-22 weeks, ok?

Well, Ive done this test twice - once at 6 weeks - foamed up like a beer keg, and again at 8 weeks, foamed up but not quite as crazy as the first time - but still major beer foam... going to try it again at 10 and 12 weeks - very interested if there is any validity to this - and no, nobody that has ever done the test mentioned anything blowing up - it's very much like using bleach and dish detergent - just don't inhale it. (remember, we don't pee real ammonia - it's uric acid, a derivative of ammonia - otherwise our skin would fall off - ammonia is really caustic)

I got my boyfriend to mix the concoction outside while I watched from the window---just in case and it was totally ginger ale. I have two daughter already so i wouldn't be surprised at a third one. I didn't the test @ around 10weeks so I won't know its validity for about another 6 weeks. Seems odd to me that there would be two such drastic differences in reaction if they're wasn't something that changed urine when you're pregnant. Although I suppose something as superficial as diet changes urine----hmmm, who knows??!!

A little rude there Spanky. I'm waiting until the baby is born to find out but it I don't see why you had to call preggers people stupid because they are interested early. Sheesh.

Thanks Marti!
Spanky - Obviously we're all eventually going to have to wait for the 18-20 wk. growth u/s but still is to each their own--no need to call names.

I agree a tad harsh, but at the same time, she's right. no matter how many times you mix ur piss with whatever chemical, you still wont know until you're told or until the doctor pulls the baby from you and says "its a .."
