It depends on the situation..when I was in labor with my 2nd child he got stuck and his heart rate was dropping on and off..they said they couldn't get a clear reading so they had to use one of those. Long story short, his heart rate was down so they had to do a c section. So it may affect the well being if you refuse, but if the dr thinks it's a necessity to the babies well being, I'm not sure they'd let you refuse! It does not hurt the baby..he just had little marks on his head for a while, like scabs. ↑ |
My first baby got a permanent leision on his head because of a fetal monitor being placed on him, however, I'm not telling you this to scare you. Wouldn't you rather have to put up with an unsightly scar on your childs head than to risk losing your little one right there at the last minute?
More times than not, they won't have to use the internal monitors, but we knew my son was having trouble prior to my being induced to labor. The procedure doesn't seem to hurt the baby at all and is just a little device that detects a heartbeat very clearly by taking pulses off a vein in the baby's head.
Take my word for it, you can tell them that you don't want it until you're blue in the face, but if the doctors and nurses believe it is a health risk to your unborn child if one is not applied, any of your wishes can be overthrown. It's sort of like going on and on about not wanting a c-section, but at times, what must be done... must be done. ↑ |
