My jaw is wired shut due to a fall. I am bulimic and figured this would be the solution, at least temporarily, but I disgustingly managed to liquify shakes and stuff in the blender and vomit, even with my jaw wired. There is absolutly no space between my teeth to get anything solid in. It is so disgusting! I could not take the pressure of life and after 10 days, I lost it. I have tried everything...12 step meetings, therapy, every food plan, etc. I have not gone to a treatment center, but trying to see if I can get in. I am also obsessed with my weight. I weigh 98 and initially started gaining weight when they put the wire on and it freaked me out when I went over 100. Anyone ever do anything that pathetic?

This may seem totally unconventional, but you sound as if you really want to get your life in control. Have you tried hypnotherapy? It doesn't always "take" the first time, so you might have to go to a few sessions. As well, you'd need one-on-one, not group type. It helps folks diet, stop smoking, etc. so I'd think it might help you accept food as nourishment rather than the enemy and stop your body dysmorphia. Good luck to you.

Thanks for your reply, just having someone to chat with sometimes takes me away from thoughts of food. I do want to stop this behavior. I have been binging/purging for 22 years! I am starting individual therapy on May 14th, but have not tried hypnotherapy. Good suggestion, I am going to see if I can find out some info on it. All of my feelings are supposedly tied up in binging and purging! Thanks so much for your suggestion!

I went through periods of bulimia as a teen and young adult and it does preoccupy your mind, which could be better used elsewhere. As for me, I lost focus, was fatigued, dizzy, dehydrated, and generally a mess. It was a scary thing to get it together when I'd been in denial, but thank God it was short lived compared to most on this site. Try to get a therapist with experience in EDs and not just an everyday counselor. You'll need more intensive therapy with 22 years under your belt. Be prepared that you'll always have some preoccupation with food and that's okay as long as it doesn't go over what's healthy. You'll enjoy life so much more.
