Hi Ladies,
I am about five weeks pregnant (unplanned but happy) I have done quite well I guess since told I was pregnant a week ago, I have only purged once. I used to do it every day four-ten times. However, I feel I need help again. Do any of you have a story of success where you had your baby even though you were bulimic. Was the baby healthy?

Let me tell you something- you are not alone, I felt so fat when I was pregnant, I faked morning sickness for about a month so I could throw up. But my doctor caught on and I stopped the behavior no matter how I felt about myself. You dont realize what you could be doing to that child and after you have the baby it puts it all into prespective. Your body will not be the only thing on your mind. It is extremely hard if you have an eating disorder to step away from the selfishness of ED and look at the bigger picture in life. Do you want to have a healthy baby. I promise you it will all be worth it - Please take care of that baby and stop throwing up.

Hi Jessica,
I am 26 years old, and I have a three year old daughter. I am currently pregnant (4 months) with my second child. I have had bulimia for 10 years. I was purging anywhere from once to ten or more times daily. I did not purge with my daughter, during the pregnancy. I did not purge for almost one year. One day due to a lot of stress that had been buliding up I began to purge once again. At this point, I had not opened up about my Eating Disorder. I was purging so many times daily. One day I woke up and decided that I needed to seek help for this, because my daughter deserved better than she was getting from me. I have been in therapy since October 2004, and I am now expecting my second child. I am doing much better. I am not purging, but the thoughts are still there. You can overcome this. I am doing it for my baby... If you can't do it soley for yourself at this point, do it for your baby. I wish you all of the best.

I was bulimic for 9 years-babe when i found i was pregnant- i have not purged once! I did get my hair done in the first trimeseter which made me puke in toni and guy-very embarrasing! But thats was not indused! hun I I puked as much as you did in one day. you are doing well-sounds like it to me- only once-not bad-that was a mistake-we'll take it as that. But when you feel the urge-you cannot do it-you have a life in you-your baby loves you. You and me are very fornate to even get pregnant after our ED! We are very lucky! Wen you feel the urge don't do it! I can only tell you what golourios things youhave head-you get to feel you baby move sooner than you think. just think about that. the first trimester is a very risky trimester-and your little one needs the world form you! you can do it babe. I haven't indused vomiting at all-im 26 1/2 weeks and all his pics inside are healthy!!! You beat this-this comming from a pro ana memeber! (as far as after pregnancy I have no idea how to lose the weight!) but right now just know you need to give this you all!

get help FAST!!!! i was preganant with my first child after 7 years of trying.I bought all thebaby stuff, clothes etc... but i was also purging. To make a tragic story short, my baby girl lived for about 2 hours. And why? because of her mommy's purging and selfish refusal to get help. Please get help and when you do keep my little Melissa in mind. Do it in the memory of a little girl who never got a chance cuz of her mom's illness.

hi, i have been bulimic since i was 11 i`m 34 now with a beautiful daughter of 2and a half, also unplanned. Pre pregnancy i throw up the same amount as you during pregnancy was sick around i don`t know maybe 1-3 times a week, felt terrible. My daughter was born breech bottom first which i now know is maybe connected. What i will say is i thought right i`m going to get fat try and go with it and then i`m going to go on the diet of a life time after. Before i was always around 11-13.7 stone when i gave birth i was 14.7 stone now i`m 9 stone the most i go up and down in half stone and it`s stayed like that . i gave birth 1st oct 03 by the enp of january i was 9 stone all i eat was tuna, beetroot, salad and loads of low cal salad cream. The first time in my life i`m slim too slim sometimes . after the diet i went back to throwing up but now only 2-max 5 times mainly 2-3. Having a child makes you a much happier person. its so hard but so amazing and you will feel so loved and wanted i think that helps. i`m the happiest i`ve ever been. Good luck and congratulations. You`ve been brave in going with your pregnancy and your be rewarded with a better body than ever after. Enjoy and look after yourself.

Please help. I am not pregnant but this is the only forum I could find where people actually respond. I am 21 years old and have been bulimic for 3 years. It gets worse and worse. Sometimes I think I am going to die when my heart starts beating really fast or I get awful stomach cramps... I don't understand why I have to eat all the time. A nice meal used to be a treat and now it's commonplace to stop by a drive-thru and pick up enough food for 3 people and scarf it all down and then throw up. It's like if I don't have something to eat at any given time I feel like I'm missing something. I have tried smoking to satisfy the oral fixation but smoking has more short-term side effects that start to bother me within weeks. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can stop needing to eat all the time? I don't have any friends I can turn to to help me with this either. It's a very secretive thing.

It is really sad the pressure society has put on young men and women to be super thin disregarding what is inside the person. Everything is so superficial and meaningless. Untill we wake up and tell Hollyweird and companies making money off of us we don't buy their crap about image then eating disorders will continue to plague us. Dove soap is one of those companies tring to turn things around. We can all do our part in our own little world and stop believing the lies they tell and show us through the movies and tv images. It's hard but I know all of you can overcome this one day at a time. Change the tape running in your head and things will change. Hugs. Take care.

I am bulimic for about 7 years now...started AFTER my first child, however, I QUIT COMPLETE when i found out i was pregnant with my SECOND...
IT IS VERY CRITICAL AND VERY CRUCIAL TO THE HEALTH OF YOUR BABY THAT YOU DO NOT PURGE THE NUTRIENTS NEEDED!!!
You can hurt the baby's brain, nervous system, physical and mental development. There are millions of things that can go wrong with lack of nutrients. DO NOT SEARCH FOR "success" stories on babies born from bulimics---cause it is NOT worth the risk...
Bulimia is ABOUT YOU...not the baby. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE seek help...
what is really hard---is trying to NOT become bulimic again AFTER the baby is born and you are staring at pounds of fat...this is my downfall....and my solution to fix...
i could never have lived with myself knowing that I was intentionally hurting my baby...please stop and TELL your doctor that you need help STOPPING.

sweetheart,
think about it for real. you can lose the precious life you have inside of you just for some stupid habit that with enough respect and love for yourself and your child will overcome. Imagine if you lost it because of bulimia. you would regret it for forever and it would haunt you. take care of you 2 babe. pray to God for it.

I'm currently 22 weeks pregnant and I have been purging almost every singel day. Its so out of control that I lately have fears of going into labor. according to my last ultrasound a week or so ago, the baby is super healthy and even had a full belly. I on the other hand feel like i'm dying somtimes. I'm dizzy way too often and constantly thinking about next binge and purge. I wish you luck, but just know that you are not alone.

I know eventually i'm going to have to gain weight, and I plan to start working on that if my doctor sees that I lost more weight she will freak out on me i'm sure.

if I were you I would start working on ways to eat healthy and not purge, or else it will just get out of control too.

Hi all... I have a question for you? With my 1st pregnancy I stopped my bulimia, but gained tons of weight. I lost every pound after pregnancy the healthy way (which took like 2 years!!). I did have a few binge and purge maybe once a month, and maybe not every month... Now that I'm pregnant I'm getting all symptons of bulimia back... I DO NOT WANT to gain ALL that weight like I did in my 1st pregnancy...and I am starting to freak out.. I mean it took a lot to loose it,,,,So now I have binged and purged like 4 times already and Im only 8 weeks pregnant.. My excuse is that if I eat healthy and keep it down and only binge and purge once a week to get rid of cravings it will be alrtight since Im not having morning sickness, and keeping everthing else.... Is this harmfull??? Its so easy to fall in this again specially since everyone expects for a pregnant woman to throw up... thank you all......

Hi there,

I work for a television production company based in the UK and we are currently making a documentary for ITV1 exploring the issues surrounding pregnancy and eating disorders. The film will be a thoughtful and insightful look into this extremely sensitive subject.

We’re in the research stages of our production and are very keen to chat to women who are, or have been, pregnant whilst having an eating disorder. We’d like to get a better understanding of what pregnant women with EDs are going through to try and spread awareness of this issue.

We are keen to speak to women in both the UK and the US.

If you’re interested in having a chat or finding out more about our documentary, it would be really great to hear from you. All communication would be in complete confidence and by no means commits you to the programme in any way.

You can contact me on: paula.wittig(at)rdftelevision.com.

Many thanks,

Paula

I was bulimic for 15 years and this is my first pregnancy. I am 7 months pregnant and only purged twice.... I used to purge several times daily. The two times I purged while I was prengnant was because I was severely stressed but I felt SO GUILTY during and afterwards that now I don't think about doing it anymore. What I'm worried about is going back to this destructive way of life after the baby is born. I want to raise a healthy baby and in order to do this I have to be a healthy mom. I don't want my life to be controlled by an eating disorder ever again.

I want to get pregnant, but I have been bulimic on and off for about 9 years. I can go months with out purging. I have been on Jenny Craig to try to lose weight the healthier way, which has worked! Once in a while, when I go to a party or friends house where junk food is being served I will eat and then purge. I probably purge maybe once every 2 weeks. I have been reading on bulimia and pregnancy and they say that bulimia can do major damage to your child, whether its health related or mentally. Do you think if I stop purging all together I will have a normal pregnancy and a healthy child?

I am 8 weeks pregnant.I have had bulimia for 26 years. On a bad day I could puke up twice, when things are good, I can go for 2 months and no puking. The only thing that works for me, is healthy eating with exercise, and I was getting there, then I fell pregnant. Since knowing i have puked twice, and really I need some support so I do not do it again. I have read the page, and I know the risks, and twice I have fallen off the wagon.Any advice. I have never told anyone about my ED.

I had been doing really well with my bulimia through my first trimester and half way through my 2nd. Last time I want to the doctor I realized that I had already gained 35 pounds. This absolutely terrified me, and now I'm having trouble again. I'm binging and purging usually once a day, and I'm so worried. I keep looking up facts that will hopefully scare me straight, but I still keep doing it.
