Perhaps he's becoming territorrial and scent marking because of the other cats. Take him along to the vet to see if he can become neutered yet. I had a cat that used to pee in the house and I took him to the vets and he had a course of hormone injections. It didn't work and eventually he had to be euthanased as I didn't know anyone who would have taken him on - he needed to go to a farmer or something where he'd have lived mainly outdoors.

Oh, I see. Perhaps you could give the area a good clean with bleach and then spray with stuff you can buy from the petstore - it's specially devised to keep cats away from furniture. Or, you can put orange peel down in the area. I suppose that he may start to go elsewhere though.

Another thing you could try is to put some of his poo into his own litter tray in his favourite area and see if that persuades him to stop his behaviour. It may get better naturally once he's been neutered.

how does she get him to go in the litter box?

Put some of his poo into the litterbox then grab hold of him and show him that his poo is in there. I've helped kittens to locate their littertrays this way. It's up to him from then on. If he chooses to ignore his poo place then I don't know.

if thier is a certain place he poos, like in the corner of the room, (usually the place where she left her scent) put her litter box there WITH THE TOP OFF. sometime kittens are afaid to go in a strange dark box also, spraying some stuff that attracts kittys to go in a certain place on the litter box (available at pet stores the dog stuff works for cats as well). u can then put some of her poo in the box , and about a half hour after she eats, supervise her, and if she starts to make motions shes going to go (sniffing squatting wandering around place she usually goes) put her in her litter box, with the top off, and wait, if she climbes out, put her back. then if she climbes out again, put her back. if she climbes out again, then just watch her, and see what she does. if she decides to go make sure you give her plenty of praise, in a soft voice, nothing to scare her, and dont touch her until she is done. then when she climbes out of the litter box, giver her a treat and pet her, and talk to her and tell her good kitty, and things like that ya know., then after she starts getting the hang of pooping in the box, you can put the top half on, then a lil while later, put it all on, and show her its still the box. however, if you have a male cat, he will spray on your furniture, to mark his territory, this is hereditory and instinkt, and the only way to stop this (usually stops it) is to get him nuetered. hope this works!!

ALSO DO NOT feed him near his litter box, or put his litter box around where he sleeps. and if he sleeps in a crate at night, and he goes, leave him in there until the morning, with is poo, then offer him his litter box, and that will keep him from going in his sleeping area[crate if he sleeps in one which i highly reccomend, because cats get into everything and you cant watch him at night] cats hate having to sleep by thier poo, and that lesson will work wonders.

if there is a certain place in the house where the cat will go saturate a rag w/ vinegar and leave it there, cats hate the smell.

I see you said you have 5 other cats, be sure there is more than one litter box. If the litter box is not clean cats will some times use other areas in the house. You did not say if he was deficating or urinating. If it is urinating he may also have a uti (urinary tract infection) if this is the case he may relieve him selfs in other places such as a laundry pile, dogs bed, bath mat. It may look as though he is trying to mark his sent but dont just assume that, it just might be one of the things I have listed. I would however check in to having him neutered that will prevent him from spraying later. If he is in fact 4 months old he could start spraying as soon as 6-8 months, that is the age a cat reaches sexual maturity. Good luck! keep us posted.

Im sorry I didnt read all the other posts. You did mention that your cat is deficating in the corner of the room. First you will need to clean the area where he is going so that he will not return ther again. If the scent remains he will return! you can mix a solution of vinagar & water apply to the area this will cover the smell. Try puting the box in a more secluded area in the house, more quiet less busy most cats prefer a clean quiet area to go.

I hope everyone who is reading this has or will spay or neuter your pet. No matter a cat or dog.... don't help grow the unwanted pet population!!!

ah yes, i forgot to mention what love cats said, it was that its very important to keep it clean, because it the box isnt clean, the cat will seek out another place to go potty.

Yes, make sure your litter box is clean! Some kitties refuse to go in a dirty pan!

We had a kitty with these same problems and we shut him in a smaller room with his litter box after he ate and didn't give him food 24/7. We fed him in the morning only and then took the bowl away until late afternoon again. This gave us more of a 'pattern' of sorts when he would 'go'. Then we would shut him in his room for a little while and he soon learned to go in his box.

(We also had another cat already and got him at about 3 months old.) We concluded that he just didn't like going in what he knew was another cat's box! We got him his own and did the above routine for a while and he is now sweet and smart, not smelly!
