would first concentrate on any health or food related issues. You would be amazed at the ways these things can affect your pet!
2nd- i would be very careful about using household products on your pet. There's a huge selection of products available that are formulated specifically for your needs.
3rd- check out several resources for answers. Search
online, contact your local shelter, groomers, boarding/breeding/training kennels. Everyone will have different suggestions....it's up to you to sort thru the info and decide what the best answer is for your situation.

It can stem through diet, skin diseases (does he have any dandruff looking stuff?) poor grooming, could be a teeth thing ......lots of reasons yveeb!

But most are curable..... Id get your vet to check it out...

I know that Tea tree oil based shampoos are brilliant for bad smelling coats though

They make puppy wipes, you can get them at pet stores, and they come in all different scents. I use them almost daily on my dogs, after they have been playing outside, that get that weird "doggy" smell. It works wonders.

This is going to sound really weird, but did any of you notice that between a dogs pads smells like fritos. Yveebe29 does he allways smell or is it a sudden thing? Some times when it is rainy humid or damp out dogs will get a odd oder. When you mentioned fritos it made me think about the feet. When they get wet and moist between the pads they smell like that. I know kinda gross, but give them a smell! LOL!!!

I have never noticed!! That is weird. I know that if they are outside for awhile playing that do have that dog smell.

ouwwwww!! She smelled their feet?? I love how the dogs smell after they are groomed or I use those wipes. Our Rott had skin problems and we had to bathe him once a week or so. My husband actually bought dog cologne for him!! I hated that smell, I would have rather smell his skin than that stuff.

Momof3 I have a really nice scented cologne for my old lady dog but some times after she comes in from out side it doesnt work. It just makes her smell worse! when you combine the out door stink plus the cologne, it smells really bad. Yah T.....m m m fritos! LOL!!!

LOL!! That is EXACTLY how a Bulldog smells if his wrinkles get damp...a mix of Fritos and dirty socks! I laughed all day at work over this one!

Can we get yveeb to join us on a more permanent basis?? I just know I'm going to like this gal!! LOL!

give your dog 1 tums each day, my dog was having the same problem and this did the trick... it helps control the ph level in the dogs system.... however this needs to be every day forever or he/she will return to their stinky self..

I buy dog deodorant for my dogs, but the bottom line is, dogs smell! There's little you can do about it ....

Wow, I can relate. I just got a dog 3 weeks ago and I can no longer stand to be near him. Even my car stinks. I've tried shampoos, doggie wipes and even doggie cologne. I'm beginning to think some dogs are just smellier than others. My house smells like wet dog. Let me know if someone gives you any good advice, ok?

We have an English Bulldog with the same odor and we were told by the vet that she has skin problems. She was put on steroids and antibiotics, for a really bad outbreak, for a few weeks and the smell was gone, but soon as she finished the steroids and antibiotics the smell came back.
