I am very concerned about attacks from pit bulls. I keep my 2 yr old grandson every week and my cat was killed while sunning in my yard on Tuesday. I am interested in banning these vicious animals and putting in place the laws we need. I live in NC.
Any help would be appreciated. ↓

| i don't have any help for you, but i personally don't like pit bulls either...espically around children. i guess if you brought them up right then their wouldn't be a problem, but i've heard of too many cases where they turn in an instant. i have a neighbor who moved in across the street and she has a pitbull (full grown) and it worries me b/c i have a 2 yr old also and a toy dog...i also in in nc..lol ↑ |

| Are you serious? or is this an attempt to get arguing started? If you want to have them banned start by going to your local city rep! Dont come to a pet board and expect all kinds of support! This bord is a 50/50 when it comes to that breed! I am however sorry about the loss of your cat! I can only assume it was killed by a Pitt Bull. Was the dog cought? ↑ |

Also, regarding pit bulls, animal aggression is TOTALLY different than human aggression! Pit bulls are NOT supposed to be human aggressive! And, yes I DO have a pit bull! And, I DO have her around my 3 yro dd all of the time! They cherish each other! ↑ |

If you read back in the past topics you will clearly see there has been many who apposed thoes people who dont like Pitts. They dont care what has happend to you to make you feel this way! I am correct in saying that she will not get constructive advice on a pets forum!
I did however instruct her to go to her state rep if she wants to get a patition to ban the Pitt in New York! Again look at the past topics, you will see that the topic on the Pitt was about a 50/50. half saw nothing wrong with any of them and the other half hated all of them!

(rolling eyes) It's to easy to ban a animal rather than holding the owners responsible for knowing right from wrong. Once again dogs don't know how to rationalize right and wrong and the consequences of there actions. Use the brain god gave you and get hands on with this breed stop adopting other peoples thoughts via media. Would you thing dalmatians should be ban if they killed your cat or bit your grandson? No probably not it would be that dog that was mean. People commit grusome murders every day that involve torture are they ban hell no they get 20 to life and thats is we can't even put these sick F***'s to "sleep". The chance you live next to a sex offender is greater than getting attacked by a "pit bull". I work in a prison now and sex offenders are 75% of the inmates confined there. They are sick but we can't ban them! A man killed his own son after breaking his arms, he is now free again. The point is dogs rarely attack and kill some one humans do it every day. The dogs can't tell you why they did it because they don't know the out come of there actions. I bet if you could tell a dog he would be killed for bitting someone he would think about it long and hard first. We know the out come of our actions and we still have mothers that put there babies in microwaves. ↑ |

I was responding to this comment from you! I agreed that someone may have been making a good attempt at an arguement.
The rest was my opinion, nothing to do with you or any other topics. Any topic the has the word pit bull in it in controversy! And always a disagreement. Normally with the so-called pit bull advocates using foul language and trashing everyone else's opinions!
I personally am very educated on my breed of choice and I will defend them to the end. BUT I will not force my beliefs, experiences and knowledge on anyone. I personally do not expect someone that has suffered because of any breed of dog to want to believe anything good about that breed! I would rather help answer any questions they have and help them have a positive experience with that breed of dog.

Again I apologise and I am glad you straightened this out. I agree with you I dont like to push my feelings and views on others eather. I to am very knowlagable about the breed and do so love them. I am a very proud owner of two APBT's (pitbull I suppose) and these are the kind of comments that put me over the edge! My dogs love babies and other animals and have been around both since they were puppies.Why are you trying to get the poor dogs banned when it's a crappy owner that is to blame? Most people also classify any "mean" mutt dog as a pitbull which also puts me over the edge. WHY NOT PASS A LAW THAT REQUIRES PEOPLE WHO OWN THE DOGS TO BE REGISTERED AND LICENSED? If a law was in place that stated who can own one and required they be registered through the county or state I promise you would not see the attacks and problems you seem to be so afraid of. How did the dog get into your yard anyway? I think you should be more concerned with what kind of neighbors you have?Because his responsible owner kept him inside or secure in a backyard? Please don't call them vicious animals when you know nothing about the dogs at at. My dogs are far more docile and well behaved than most of the dogs in my neighborhood. I , like alot of other loving responsible pit owners, plan on owning this wonderful breed for the rest of my life and if people like you want to take that away from me and let the breed die out that makes you a monster as well doesn't it? That would be a very scary law. That would invade my rights as a US citizen, that would do exactly what the government wants to do!!!! Be all up in everybody's business. If they did this to pit bull owners, they better do it to EVERY other breed to!! Would that be fair? No!!! Not for any breed!! We already live in a society that feels that they can tell me how to raise and punish my child, where I can and cannot smoke, how many pets I can own and that is just to name a few!
I will be damned if someone will be able to make me register, like a criminal, because of my breed of choice. If we allow this what will stop them from basically raping me becasue of my breed and NOW I am part of a data base that states my breed.
And, I am PROUD to own a APBT! She is a productive member of my community. She does some therapy work, she has her CGC. She is completely obedience trained on and off leash. I take her everywhere. I will let anyone that wants to pet her. I will stand and answer and talk pit bulls for hours, if someone wants! I have already started educating my 3yro daughter and she will give you an earful also! I also preach responsible ownership! Tell everyone I meet to spay and neuter their pets! I will be the first to tell people that APBT's are NOT for everyone! I am happy to discuss their faults!! and pluses!! I NEVER recommend them to someone I just meet! Hey, you want a dog that is a social butterfly, get a Lab!!!!!
But, like my pp's stated, we need to talk rationally to those who think different than we do regarding our beloved breed. Why upset them even more! You get a lot more with honey than vinegar.

kellinsmom - I'm sorry. I really don't mean that all of us should be registered like criminals. That's not right but...... I found this babycrowd site last month after I had the worst experience of all time at a dog park. I went online and typed in " Pit Bull ban" and sure enough this little site popped up. Anyway what do I see page after page? Really stupid posts like these:
"how do I make my pit fight?"
"Anybody have a pit for $50?"
" my pit just had puppies again- FREE for anyone that wants"
"anybody have a pit to breed?"
So while I don't mean we should all be registered like felons, why can any person, no matter how unfit they are allowed to own these dogs? I am a very private person and I don't need anyone telling me what to do but if it means that losers will think twice about getting this breed than awesome! All dogs are dangerous to some degree but I think these dogs need to be handled very specifically and not by people who want them to fight other dogs and guard the property. The last thing I would ever want to deal with is being registered like a criminal because of my dog but, when everyone is trying to get my breed banned (meaning I would have to sell my house?!) in desperation I make the suggestion to pass a law to try and prevent indecent ownership. I do apologize as I am still very young and I am very passionate about these dogs so I can see how I could come as abrasive. ↑ |
