The food that you feed her makes a difference. You can also use a brush or rake regularly. I have 2 large breed mutts that shed like crazy. They key is regular grooming (i bathe my dogs once a month and blow them out) and I rake their coats every 2 days. I also feed them a higher quality food. NO GROCERY STORE OR WAL MART BRANDS!!! Go to a specialty store...a pet store. It may be more expensive food, but it will save you money in the long run.

Beneful is a grocery store food. If you can buy it at a grocery store or walmart or other store that doesn't cater to pets, then chances are it's probably not that great.

Ground yellow corn, chicken by-product meal, corn gluten meal, whole wheat flour, beef tallow preserved with mixed-tocopherols (source of Vitamin E), rice flour, beef, soy flour, sugar, sorbitol, tricalcium phosphate, water, animal digest, salt, phosphoric acid, potassium chloride, dicalcium phosphate, sorbic acid (a preservative), L-Lysine monohydrochloride, dried peas, dried carrots, calcium carbonate, calcium propionate (a preservative), choline chloride, vitamin supplements (E, A, B-12, D-3), added color (Yellow 5, Red 40, Yellow 6, Blue 2), DL-Methionine, zinc sulfate, glyceryl monostearate, ferrous sulfate, niacin, manganese sulfate, calcium pantothenate, riboflavin supplement, biotin, thiamine mononitrate, garlic oil, copper sulfate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, folic acid, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), calcium iodate, sodium selenite.

Those are the ingredients in regular beneful. The ingredients that you should usually take into account are the first 3. Two of the 3 are yellow corn. That can be a very hard ingredient to digest (you know what happens when you eat corn lol) The meat as well is a by product meal. When corn is used as one of the first 3 ingredients it is usually as a filler. When choosing a meat source try not to choose one that says "by product meal" such as the "chicken by product meal" in the beneful. By product meal can mean things such as feathers, bones, heads and other stuff that would usually not make it into the food. When you feed foods like this, the proteins and essential nutrients are not easily absorbed and so they often need to eat more to meet their requirements. Some store brand dog foods would require my 100 lb dogs to eat 12-15 cups a day!!!!! The food I feed them they are on 2-3...they are very active and need this much. The price of food does not always reflect the product quality. The more expensive ones like Beneful can afford to be more expensive because they advertise so much.

No prob Heather. Not many people do realize what they are feeding their animals. Feeding them right also has the potential to save you big money on vet bills later on as well.

lol!My dog sheds lots of hair too...and normally when I carry her
or watevs I get covered in hair!!What I do is I try to comb her
hair every day so that a normal amount of hair falls off instead
of it lingering loose and covering you..

Almost all the grocrie store foods are crap, they are full of junk addatives. T-rabbit listed some of the better brand foods! They will contain the proper vitamins as well as proteins with out the corn fillers and scrap additives.

Also HDC if your dog is shedding more than normal he may be lacking the proper vitamins for keeping him healthy. Certain dog foods claim to help with sheddin because they are balanced to keep a healthy dog, thus keeping their skin and coat healthy as well! They only help if the dog is lacking vitamins or proteins. If your dog is not lacking any of these things than the dog food change will not help.
