My daughter is turning 2 in a few months, she was born with both feet clubbed, her feet were about as severe as they could get. I did cry when they put the casts on, I felt like my cuddly baby was taken away, and all she did was cry because of the pain. I imagine its like having someone bend your finger backwards and then cast it in place. Anyway this wen ton for 4 or more months, then for 5 more months she wore the dennis bar brace, now she only wears them at night. In fact whenever she is tired she goes into her room and retrieves her brace and hands it to me. It is a hard road, but I promise it gets much better! My little girl is so active, in fact her little legs and tummy muscles are so strong from wearing the brace that she is more agile then most kids, she runs and climbs EVERYTHING! Good luck!

well i had my son at 15 years of age and he was born with one clubbed foot.I was not sure what that was at first......one hour later he had a cast on his little leg. we had to change his cast every two weeks the at one year of age he had it off for good.the docs told me that he would have to be in cerrective shoes well he was for ahwile then time went on and he didnt want to ware them and i really never made him. well no one had told me that if i did not keep these on him that 9 years later his foot would have almost been more deformed now then was at birth.I now blame myself i cant believe that i could have let my responsibilitys go like that. so now its all on my chest what ever happens to him is my fault. i fell like crap now noing that this is all my fault how bad of a mother was i.dont make the mistake i did make them where there shoes and braces.

I totaly understand what you are saying. My son was born with clubbed feet 5 months ago. They have been using the casting on him then the tendonopothy then the corrective shoes. Please be careful. My son has had the surgurey and the cast and now he is going to have the shoes, and his feet are S shaped and his ankel bones are not int he right place. It scares me so much because there is nothing I can do about his feet. we are taking him to a different DR. PLEASE make sure your DR knows what he is doing and has a general concern for your child. My DR did not and it has now affected my son

I am 39 years old. I was born with severe club feet on both feet. I spent the first two years of my life in casts and ages 3 to 5 in brases right up to the first day of school when I realized no one elce wore those funky shoes. So i started wearing what we called waffle stomper boots at school then I would put my braces on when I got home. They will get through this and so will you and the love I have for my mom as a single parent is unbreakable because she help me through it. I am greatful for the Shrinners HospitaI. I only found this site because my 7 year old son wanted to understand wht the scars on my anckles and feet were from. I want all of you to know that medical technology is amazing. I was one of the children that the doctors in 1968 used to pioneer todays surgery and casting procedures. I spent many hours walking up and down the hallways at the shrinners hospital in Salt Lake City so that other doctors could watch how well I was doing. I was told at first that I should not run or play contact sports and to be careful with things like that. Well, long story short I promise you that if you treat them normal they will be more normal. I fought with my mom to let me start playing football in the 3rd grade. I went on to play football, baseball, basketball and track as a pole vaulter all the way through High School. Thats 10 years as an overage athete with the biggest heart because I appreciated every second of what I was doing on the footbalI field or on the basketball court. I then went on to play College Basketball in Fresno California. I am not saying it was easy and I did have challenges but if they have desire and they stretch and you as parents do wht the doctors ask and rotate their anckles everyday they will be fine and they will see themselves as normal. The aches and pains in my feet have always come and gone but everyday of doing what I wanted to do was worth it. The surgery's done on me were successful. I have skinny claves and some scars that you can barley see as an adult. Other than that I had a life of a kid that loved sports and loved doing what I was told i couldn't do and so will your children if you will let them. I have 4 beautiful children and loving wife. That is as normal as it gets. Good luck to all of you and your children.

I had a daughter born with club feet 8 1/2 years ago. When I was 5 months pregnant I went for an ultrasound and was told that both of her feet were clubbed. I had no idea at the time what club feet was. I begin to do research on this subject and became more informed. About a week or two after she was born her pediatrician sent us to the Nemours Children Clinic here in Jacksonville, Florida where the doctors placed casts on her feet. We continued to go back and forth to the clinic until she was 7 months. At that time she was old enough to have the surgery. The surgery went well and lasted for 71/2 hours. She is now almost 9 years old and in the 3rd grade. She is a very smart girl and makes good grades. The only problem she has with her feet is trying to find comfortable shoes to fit her feet. She has no arch and her feet needs an extra wide shoes. When she walks and runs one of her feet still curves in a little but not very noticeable. She has scars around her ankles from her surgery. I am going to look into possible plastic surgery when she becomes a teenager. She is my second child on three and the only one born with clubbed feet. She is my angel and I love her no matter how or what she was born with. She knows she had clubbed feet because I explained it to her . She is a very happy little girl and I am very proud of her.

Im 18 and i was born with severe clubbed feet, and i can tell you this, when they are young the feet may hurt may get a sprained ankle and it isn't so bad. As i have gotten older it has gotten bad. Basically everyday i just want to cut my feet off b/c they hurt so bad. I may be in a wheel chair by the age of 30. It just constant pain and it sucks.

I am the owner of Montes Orthopedic in Tucson, Arizona. I am a research Scientist in the field of Bio-Mechanics, and have been for over twenty five years. I am considered the Worlds most authority on the making, and adjusting of custom made foot for the different problems known to man. I have invented the Inst-Mold Foot insert that can move from shoe, to shoe is adjustable to the needs, and comfort of my clients foot conditions. Being a recipient of major foot that went wrong, where all the joints in both feet were removed and fused together to correct a flat foot condition when I was age twelve, I have invented the Inst-Mold Foot insert. This product is made from orthopedic materials that come from Germany. This product was designed to form to your feet, while your feet are in motion. As a result of the unnecessary surgeries , and abuses that I have witnessed while in my own business for over twenty five years, I have taken upon myself to put a stop to these abuses, unwarranted surgeries, by lower the cost of my custom made foot inserts to only $50.00 a pair. As a result of this change in the way I conduct business at Montes Orthopedic, you can now take advantage of this new product, that has the potential to rescue you from surgery to your feet, back, knee, and hip surgeries. In addition this product is known to elevate pain from TMJ ( a jaw problem related to an imbalance of your posture) Further more I have reduced the cost to acquire my product from $350.00 a pair to 50.00. My main mission is to make you the most effective product you have ever had, while robbing the Doctors of their need to do unnecessary surgeries. Please be advised that I am not a Doctor, nor do I pretend to be. I also found out whilst pregnant that my wee little angel had clubbed feet, after many surgerys and balls ups by the hospital system that has failed us we are now facing the hardest time ever, her right foot will never heal and she will end up in huge amounts of constant pain, so now our only option left is amputation...... All i can advise is ask as many questions as you can and dont take no for an answer if your gut says otherwise! QUESTION EVERYTHING!!! My lil girl is so storng and brave that she will get hrough this even though it is so hard to come to terms with as a family. Belive in your child and stay positive. have hope, i do

my baby girl was born the same way, i wasn't told, they were not abe to see it during the ultra sound and for me it was happyness and sadness at the same time, she was operated on placed in plasteters, she was kept in hospital for a month, the plaster was removed, them she had to wear inner soles when she started to walk, that was great, dont worry. The only bad thin about the whole thing was that one foot was opperated correctly and the other facing outwards. Now she is 12 she need anothe operation and that is another worry. But find an honest sugeuon and ask to see previous work that he did on other children. Stay happy and good luck with your new baby.

My daughter was born with a clubfoot. It was not diagnosed in utero, so it was a complete surprise. We are currently undergoing the Ponseti method. We began treatment when our daughter was 6 days old. She is doing well and there is no major surgery which is a huge relief. I recommend that you seek this treatment out rather than opting for surgerical intervention if possible.

HI ~ I am 28 yr old female, and I was born with bilateral club feet. I was very lucky. I wasn't born with the hip or knee problems that can come along with it. I was casted at birth, and had major surgery at 7. At 17 I had another minor surgery, and then after my 2 kids I had another major surgery. I don't know how my mom and dad did it. But they never let me see how upset they were, and always told me how lucky I was, and pushed me. I played sports int high school and college. I never let it get in my way. Unfortunaley the last surgery (on both feet) was not the greatest out come. It turned out that I now am in cronic pain and cronic arthritis. This is from the triple arthodesis that I had. I can't run, and chase my kids around the yard like I want too. It is very upsetting. I am now schedualled for another surgery (one foot at a time, with a 6 month recovery time) They will go in and put new bone into my ankle, and then re-aline my heal......I'm a fighter.......I think you just have to be possitive, and trust your instinks, I think God doesn't give us what we can't handle.....I hope that wasn't offensive.....My outcome doesn't happen to everyone, everyone is different. I know how scared you must be, but think about how lucky you and your family are that your baby doesn't have spina b. If you would like to contact me. My email address is [email protected] I would love to talk to you about it more or if you have any questions. Just go to the best doctors...And most of all do your reserch, you are your childs advocate, and always remind your baby how special he/she is and how lucky they are....My mom would rub my feet and tell me that she was pulling the pain out, it sometimes worked....Good luck.....

I am 35 weeeks pregnant and I found out at 20 weeks that my baby has club-feet. I also have a four year old little boy who was perfect inside and out, but hearing that my baby girl had a defect never made me think that she wasn't perfect also!!! My husband was also born with club-feet so I just laughed it off and when people ask me what I think about it, I respond " Guess beings our son is just like Me, she decided to be just like her daddy!!!! If you feel like you are going to miss the softness of a baby because of the cast you need to rethink what is important, your baby is alive and generally healthy and that is what should count!!!! As uncomfortable as he is going to be in the cast, he really will need the softness of his mommy!!!! I wish you the best.

my grandson was born in 2001 with a severe case of clubfeet. His right foot almost looked as if it was laying on his leg. While his left foot was just turned in.This was my Daughters first child and you could not help but feel sorry for the baby when you looked at his feet. But God blessed us with a Doctor who was born with clubfeet and he acceptted my Gradson as a patient. He had his first set of cast on when he was six days old. From then on every week from Feb. to May we would take him back have them remove the cast and position his feet out more then recast him. He would cry for the next four days then he would be use too the pain and it would be time to take him back again and start the procedure all over again. I do suggest that buy a lot of the night gowns for PJ because the baby will never wear the normal leg PJs( they will not go over the cast.)Then in June of 2001 the doctor performed the surgery on his left foot by cutting his achiles tendion and casting his foot. His right foot we had to wait until Sept. of that year and he had reconstructive surgery on his foot. He has scars on that foot that children today ask him what is wrong and he answers " God made me speacial with markings on my feet so I would stand out"Once he had this procedure done he was able to walk like a normal child. The Doctor who treated him moved to another state. We have spent the last six years trying to find another Doctor in our area that would see him. We have finally found one. My Grandson lives a normal life....he plays baseball and basketball.
Be prepared to lose a lot of sleep in the beginning when the casting first starts. But keep in mind they never remember what happens to them because they are so young. Watch out because with cats on their feet small or not they still hurt if you are hit by them while changing a diaper.
Good Luck and I will keep you in my prayers.

My son was born with club feet and it was a major shock. I had an ultrasound at 20 weeks and no one detected anything. So, you can imagine the shock when he was born. The doctors and nurses said they were the worst they had ever seen. After months of casting and the wearing the Dennis Brown Bar 24 hours a day his feet look good. My son is now 9 months old and although the first few months were hard i wouldn't change it for the world. It was definitely a growing experiance.

My son will also be born with clubbed feet... the only thing I havn't read on here is the medical debt...it's really the only thing Im concerned about. How are you guys paying for all these surgeries, and weekly castings? We are not well off, altho we do have pretty good insurance.. is anyone else in my situation? Are you guys pretty much going to be in debt the rest of your lives? I'm scared of the medical bills lasting until he's 18!

my son was born 4/4/08 with club feet. it was a total surprise. the u/s tech missed it on the ultrasound. i wish i had known just to be more prepared. i mean to find a really good dr. we have one in lubbock tx. i mean i wish i could have talked to a lot more than just the one. my son gets his casts off today 7/1/08 . he's had the on for 7 1/2 weeks. its been hard on him. they would aggravate him because he can't lift and bend his legs. i wonder if they have contributed to his constipation. his castings have been extremely painful to him. the manipulations of his feet hurt him. i felt so bad for him. i was dying inside but i had to stay strong for him. he was only 1 month old when his castings started. he went every week to lubbock to change them out and get new ones. after the 4th casting he had surgery to cut his achilles tendon. he did fine w/ the surgery. he's been a brave little boy. he gets fiited today for shoes w/the bar. i hope he does well. do you think its genetic or positional for club feet to happen?

My lovely nephew was born with a club foot. It was hard for my sister and my parents to see a baby with something wrong but as it turns out you can't schedule a life for yourself or your child where nothing ever goes wrong. My nephew is now 8 and runs and plays (though he prefers video games like many 8 year old boys) and he's just perfect. It took a lot of work and perseverance and not every outcome is the same but I suspect you're going to have a great experience with your kid. I am now in the early stages of my first pregnancy and wondering what joys and challenges it will bring. Before you meet someone, they can be a pile of adjectives. Afterwards, you will love them for whatever their particularities may be. I wish you many joys and strength in facing your challenges! I think you'll do great.

I understand how you have to feel, my son is 2 1/2 months old and was born with clubbed feet. His is pretty severe, he was put in cast when he was one day old and has casts ever since. We have recently been taking him to a more experienced doctor in nashville, tennessee and are going to be starting a new procedure the 23rd. It is called the ponseti method, it is a method to treat club feet without major surgery. I have been looking on the internet at the different ways to treat club feet and i am confident about going with the ponseti method. As a parent myself i know you are scared but once you see him it wont matter what you have to go through with him having clubbed feet. My son adapts well to the casts and doesnt have any idea that something is wrong, he is perfect in every other way and most of the time i forget that there was even a problem at all(unless we are running back and fourth to the dr. appts) but in the end everything will work out accordinly and i still believe everything happens for a reason. Good luck
