Hi everyone!! I am a mum of a 14 month old girl who has Down's syndrome. She is our second child and a much loved part of our family. We had a high risk triple test but declined the amnio.

To all parents, you are NOT alone!! Check out our big beautiful family on Future of Down's.

It is a new resource for parents of children with Down's syndrome. The forums and the links to charities, positive stories & blogs and other success stories are invaluable.

I was wondering if there is anyone who would be willing to help me on a school project in regards to children with Downs. I only need to ask 5 questions about the child(ren)'s syndrome and your reaction. Very simple questions. I know it might be a touchy subject, but everything will be kept in confidentiality. Can someone please help me? If I don't find someone to interview about their child, then I fail this class :( Thanks for your help.

hey april, i a mum off a girl called paige age 5 who is down syndrome. i had no idea paige was downs until she was born. my scan and doctors appointments were all normal just lyk my previous pregenies. eastendera was doin a story line in a baby with down syndrome @ the tym i was havin a planned section with paige. when the nurse let me c her, i new she was differnt but only cos off the soap. paiges features was the small eyes and the small mouth with the big tongue. i found out when i was took to the recovery room they z that there was signs off paige bein downs and they wld carry out test to confirm it. i asked them to show me how they could tell, thats when they explained all to me. she had the features in her face, back off her neck was just a bit off fat, the palm off her hand. i was just waitin for blood test to confirm it. i was shock'd but i wouldnt change her for the world x

My name is Christie and both of my children have downs. My daughter is now 18 and my son is 16. I found out at birth that my daughter had down syndrome. I only had the standard triple test in which did not pick it up that she would have down syndrome. When i got pregnant for the second time my husband and i along with our doctor decided to have an amnio due to complications i had during delivery with my daughter.

Hello April
I had a baby son with Down's syndrome, I found out after he was born as I refused to have prenatal tests, as a positive result would not have changed the love I already felt for my unborn baby. He was born with a heart condition that nearly killed him, but luckily he had life saving open heart surgery. He is now a healthy 2 year old.
It worries me that there are so many people who feel the need to make cruel and sick remarks about people with DS. If more people had Down's syndrome, the world would be a much nicer place. My son is a delight and I would not choose to have him any other way, I am so pleased that my life has been blessed with him.

hi april, my daughter just turned 7 years old. i found out she had down syndrome the second she was handed to me. i am in education/special ed. i didn't need a doctor to tell me. i just knew it. i was always concerned that i would have a child with down syndrome - i dont know why. i even told my husband that at 35, we have to stop having kids due to the risks of having a child with downs. i had her at 32. she is my third child. yes, i had two more. every child is a blessing despite all their challenges. she is doing very well. yes, i had sonograms and they said eveything was fine. she did not have any health issues and continues to be one of my healthiest children. Good luck!

Hi I am a 29 yr old mother of two youngest havin downs. We didnt find out for two weeks after his birth. After one week i had some feelings of a problem but not knowing anything about downs, didn't suspect that. The doc came to us and said they done some testing but now know they were wrong and he was fine. The next morning he pulled us into a room and said he should have never spoken to us without waiting on test, he was sorry but wrong and our son had downs. He ask if we had any questions. At that point i didn't know what to ask. Aden is going on six and we have been so lucky with him. He is healthy as can be! Needs a whole lot of attention and takes so much time but he is our little boy, my baby.

I am a 23 year old woman went for my 12 week scan and found fluid all over the baby I've been given a 1-2 chance of a d/s baby can't believe this really after i had a miscarriage 4 months ago, I'm going to Southampton tomorrow for more scans and the cvs test which I think they put a needle through your belly to test the fluid in the placenta, it's a load of rubbish when they say you have a higher risk of having a baby with d/s when your over 35 because I'm only 23, has this happened to anyone and there child didnt have d/s when they were born?

Im 18 years old and recently had a child with downs I did not know while I was pregnant that she would have downs the day she was born was the best day ever thats untill the nurses took her and when the nurse brought her back she had a Dr. with her the Dr. looked at me looked at my fiance and then at my beautiful daughter Meaghan and then said there has been some concerns as he went on he started saying everything that was wrong with my little girl like she was some kind of monster I had 1 more dr examine her before we got the blood test done and he said the same things so I took her to oklahoma city and they did a blood test and they called and told me that her test was positive meaning the test showed her extra chromosone

First - if you are going to do research - please be acurate - it is NOT down syndrome child --- it is child with Down's Syndrome --- DS is a condition, not an adjective - you would never say the diabetis baby

I know that many people can go against my views but keeping a baby with downs is not a thing I could ever consider some of downs children or adults have more complications in life later not fulfilling a normal and happy life and which tax payers fit the bill to comfort their existence in a bit more normal life I don't see how this is fair to put upon a person

Name: Luke | Date: Oct 22nd, 2012 8:05 AM
I agree with Sheila I mean its not fair on the person with downs to be living like this people need to forget about the emotional attachment and think about the quality of life and to the fact what do they bring to society? In reality nothing!!! They don't reproduce many of them are in pads and many if them have problems with speech. I know they look cute but freaking hell they are parasites be gone with them pple
