Hi all! I am a first year student in a school psychology program and have an interest in special needs children. For my Special Education class, I am supposed to write a paper on children with disabilities. Along with research, I am really interested to see what you, as parents, have to say. If you have a minute, I would really appreciate it if you could answer a few questions for me. Thank you in advance!
Please tell me about your child (age/grade, personality, how you describe him/her… Names and personal identification will not be used in my paper) :

Home

What is your child’s role within the family?
What was your initial reaction to your child’s disability? How has this changed?
What are your dreams for your child?
And also, what “nightmares” or fears do you have concerning your child?
What gifts and strengths does your child have?
What does he or she bring to the family?
How has your child’s disability affect other members of the family?

School

How have you worked with the school system in developing your child’s educational program?
What frustrations have you had with the school system concerning your child’s education?
What positive experiences have you had working with the school system?
What extent is your child included in the regular classroom?
What school activities does your child participate in?

Social

What is the importance of friendships to your child’s life?
How does your child perceive his or her disability?
