You need to get either early intervention or children's rehab services to help you if you are here in the states. They can get you a behavior specialist. What works for most kids won't work for autistic kids. Usually autistic kids want to be alone anyway so sending them to time out isn't effective. You need to go to www.yahoo.com and click on groups. Then in the search box type autism and get you a group that can help you will lots of autism issues. They can help you w/the food choices and all things autism along w/ a doctor and specialist in your area. I've seen great improvement w/autistic kids at my daughters special ed preschool. It takes work but it's worth it.

Hi Debbie, what works for one wont always work for another we all know that but..... when my son was hitting we were told repeatedly the best thing to do is hold their hands down for 5 seconds and look away, if they do it again hold them down for ten, I never liked the idea of doing that at first but eventually it started to work, now when he does ( occassionally ) do it we tell him '' no, not nice '' and he will say it back but stop, its a hard thing to deal with, good luck
