I've got 12 weeks maternity leave but would like to put off going back to work a bit longer. However, I can't afford to not work. I'm thinking of asking my boss if it's okay to work from home or maybe coming in part time. Has anyone else ever had any experience with this? Was it successful?

I used to work for a marketing company, doing market research. After I had my first child, I only got a few months off for mat. leave. I was lucky that my job allowed me to work from home. I convinced my boss that this was a good idea, and she allowed it. It was fun, but it was also pretty hard work. Even though you are at home, you still have work and the baby to take care of, not to mention all the other household chores etc. But give it a go...you should sound your boss out on it.

I believe you can take a two year leave, without benefits or pay. Check with a labor attorney.

Hi..just popped in to read your note.. Well I amagine that it all depends on your work.. How good of a relationship you have with them and would they benifit with you comming in only part time for awhile..I was thinking of doing that very same thing..working part time and then going back to full time after so long? My work has been very generous on my leave as I had to take it a whole month early..I will be out about 4 months. and due in about 5 weeks. Good luck and dont be afraid to ask your work for extra time with your new one :)
