Geico, Adoption Links Worldwide in Omaha Nebraska is licensed in numerous states as well they do international having thier own orphanages in I believe China and Guatamala, there is also AIC which I think is licensed in every state and is pretty reputable

Hi~
Thank you~ I was curios if you knew, I was told this evening that there was a Agency that charged X amount but you were on a program, where it was a surething, and you paid this company, a monthly fee to network you, Does any one have a clue of the name of this place. Thanks

Well Geico, Adoption is NEVER a sure thing and to pay an agency for such a thing is a way for them to get more money. If they say it is a sure thing does that mean in 6 months X amount of dollars which i am sure is probably a high risk non refundable 20K fee and they will claim most is legals and such will get you a baby or do they have up to 10 years to place.

Birthmoms are not disposable, and if there is an agency out there guaranting placement I am sure they arent as trustworthy as other agencies. Who knows what methods they are using and if you are even getting an accurate history on the baby. I.E. a drug addicted baby with the potential for many problems and you are told the baby comes from a healthy mom.

The best way to network is by your own word of mouth, personally I have placed once and almost placed recently but my PAPs lost thier home study and so I chose to parent instead of looking for a new couple, I found them here on the internet and they used IAC. They had been with IAC for 5 years and had 4 failed placements. My 5 year old who I placed I met them through a lawyer in my town and needless to say they are not at all the couple that was represented to me through out the process.

Birthmoms are wiser these days and in that with the way things are it is more beneficial to self network, just think the thousands you are going to pay an agency or lawyer to match for you could be better used for a college fund.

Shauna, I totally agree with you concerning where the money would be better used, but what can someone like me do in Georgia, where it's illegal to "advertise" for wanting to adopt? I've bugged so many folks about my desire to adopt, but it's very hard to network with restrictions about how to do so. Does anyone who's adopted through independent/private means have suggestions as to how to network or show intent without breaking the law? Georgia is not an agency-only state, but they restrict you to where you have to rely on an agency to find an available situation. I think the choices we're left with cross the lines of ethics. I'm not going to hang outside the local birthright or planned parenthood center and harass women, but I'm not allowed to put an ad in the paper or on the respective centers' bulletins to call their attention to me. This is the whole reason I've turned to the internet, and to be honest, I don't see many birthmoms, just potential adoptive parents, either them or scammers. Any suggestions short of $20,000.00 to be on a list?

Tattudemom,

I agree in our state there is no less than 25.000, I have been networking and even though, my husband works for a Insurance Comp. on the back of each of his cards is our Adoption Ad and no reply, so where do we turn to. Anyone?

Well Tattudemom, from my experience and this isnt to bash I wouldnt waste my money with IAC the way they run things, they are reputible yes but even my workers with my agency thought they were overbearing and out of control the way they pretty much stalked the birthmoms, and my PAPS were in Atlanta so it would be the same division of IAC which tells me there are reasons they had so many failed matches. Also IAC was not on top of paperwork like they were supposed to be and didnt even have the background checks done that were required for ICPC.

I almost wonder now why my PAPs had ads in papers all over, but they had an attorney retained that placed those so is that legal? I wonder if all that has to do why they lost thier homestudy atop the other crud I was told. I guess that would be hard but really it is so sad that agencies and lawyers can rake you over the coal financially for adoption but you have to explain the robe you bought your Bmom for after her delivery to the judge!

Really that is something scarey to me.

The way I understand it, you are allowed to pay for birthmom expenses as long as it's done through the attorney; however, there is a limit as to what constitutes birthmom expenses. Georgia is pretty strict about that too. As for the ads, it's my understanding that only a licensed child-placing agency can advertise for PAPs in GA, not attorneys. Attorneys and doctors are "in the know" about who's placing and who's adopting, so they usually don't need to advertise, but this has become less and less popular with so many agencies promising to pay expenses for birthmoms. Obviously, if you're pregnant and broke, this can mean everything, not to mention the unwed mothers' homes that deal directly with agencies and give the birthmom's (hidden) shelter. I know personally of a girl in high school who is pregnant, but no matter how much my cousin (one of two who know) told her I wanted to adopt, she said she'd rather abort than have others know she's pregnant. I know that sounds crazy in this day and age, but that's just what she said. :-(

One suggestion is let your ob/gyn know that you would like to adopt. I told my gyn that I wanted to adopt and they told me to write a letter of what I wanted and they would let me know if the situation comes up. They told me they have walk ins all the time that just want to hand the baby over for adoption. if your ob/gyn has your information they will call you if not the baby goes straight to social services. Just a thought.
